I definitely would not do wood chairs with all the other wood you have. I looked on the Ethan Allen website to see what kind of chairs they showed but the Tango doesn't look like your table. It looks like the Explorer. Could that be it?

Anyway, they show it with rattan Parsons chair, which was going to be one of my suggestions, something with some texture. Or, you could do upholstered Parsons chairs from Carrington Court, with a gathered skirt. Allison0704 has a set with a similar, though smaller, table, and it looks great.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of great suggestions from others, but you definitely need to offer some visual relief from all that wood.

I agree that we need a little let up frothebrown wood. Iwas wondering about combining it with balck side chairs and upholstered arm chairs.

OK, so now that you can see my breakfast room, part of the adjacent kitchen and the family room, can you help me pick breakfast room chairs, a ceiling fixture....and any other decorating suggestions? This is the place to go for great ideas, this I know! Thanks,

Some leather upholstered parsons chairs would go nicely with the lines of the table and the cabinetry, and would also have the same lines as the stools. Maybe you even want to do the red leather, as you've already established that as an accent color, and it looks like there's some red in the carpet under the table. Big plus -- they're easily dressed up with a slipcover when you're ready for a change.

I think I can see quite a bit of wrought iron or oil rubbed bronze in the knobs, curtain rods & table lamps. I would use this as the jumping off point for the ceiling fixture. If you like chandeliers, maybe a curvy bronze chandelier with a few crystals hanging down (I mean a fun & flirty one, not a gaudy 70's number, lol!). Or you could go with a straighter lined one -- look at Pottery Barn Lowell & Veranda, for examples.

I don't necessarily think the red side chairs are wrong...but I'm curious what bothers you about them. TO me it's just that they're kind of floating there with no real purpose. Like, if that's meant to be a reading area or a place to have a cup of tea, they need a little table between them. Think about what you want that space to be, and then you'll know how to address the chairs.

Thanks so much, Leigh, for your very astute observations! I think the reason I don't care for the red flocked side chairs ( they are called Poppy chairs from Pier One) is that they feel heavy and a bit ornate For that room. I'd like a lighter feel. The chairs are also low, which is why there isn't a table between them.

Is the rug staying? You have such an eclectic mix of artwork on the wall behind your table that a more colorful rug might enhance it. (Not to say there's anything wrong with the rug you have)

And, do you have any inspiration pictures? That might be your first task. Houzz.com is a great source for inspiration pictures, and might help to clarify your vision for the room. Then, you can decide how to make it happen, with everyone's help here. You could really go a lot of different directions with your chairs and chandelier; it's what YOU want for the room. I think a crystal chandelier and white upholstered chairs would look great but that may not be what you want. (I'm too adverse to dusting to have crystal myself!)

The rug can go -- and the wall can be rearranged. I'm trying for a bit more contemporary look to cool down the very traditional and warm kitchen. White would be too stark for that room and the rooms it adjoins, but cream or biege, gold or sage would not. If i could say what i really want, it's eclectic, but with a modernish, Tuscan look -- i realize that is a total contradiction, but, hey, a girl can dream! I'm inspired by the blue fiestaware-like pitcher with the yellow and orange flowers on the table. Just put them there and they were very jolly. Just checked that Houzz site and it's terrific. I'm finding some ideas I like there for my chairs and ceiling fixture, but I'd still love more suggestions from this brilliant group!

I'd go with black chairs, either painted or upholstered - or red chairs, upholstered in a plain fabric or leather. Either would stand out from the wood.
