Though I think the one you have now looks just fine a nice round table would work also. I like the one from Pottery Barn the best.

I think the current one is fine, but if you want new, the first one is very nice. If you went with the 3rd one, I think a glass top for it would work better.
I am not in love with #3. It seems ordinary and think for that price, you should get more special.

I wonder if you would consider something like this? I think the vanilla color would pay homage to your ivory kitchen cabinetry, and would be a nice relief from all the dark wood and colors in the space. Pretty sitting on that rug, too.

If I were you, rather than buying a "big box" coffee table, I would haunt my favourite antique shop for inspiration or an unfinished wood furniture store

Funny, I did see the one that yaya posted online, but I felt a little funny about putting a "fake" arts & crafts table with a real/vintage arts & crafts chair. I am definitely open to vintage, but when I have looked at antique stores in the past, I never seem to find round tables, at least not ones that work for my house. So far, I like the way the Anthropologie table looks the best in my house, but I worry about the table top. To me, it almost looks like it's coming apart in the close-up pics on the site.

I thought the Anthro top looked too "used," too. I wonder if you could take the picture to a local metal fabricator and have the base made, then add a wood or glass top.

hgtv, I'm always a little embarassed to admit how much we spend on art, but that painting is by Peter Batchelder. DH and I just fell in love with his work when we saw it.

teacats, (1) I love you and (2) I keep looking at the first one too and noted that one buyer review on the web site said she wasn't thrilled about the really rustic top, so she had a piece of glass made to put on it, which may be an idea.

NEVER apologize for spending money on art. I love Batchelder...and that is a stunning painting. Stickley is still making mission-style furniture...I can't get their page to load or I'd look and see if they do a round one. My internet is wonky today...but if I can get ebay to load I'll link some of the tables I saw that MIGHT work for you.

And I am liking the metal base Stickley Pomona that forhgtv posted. The metal relates to the console table, the wood relates to the rocker, and it's authentic (if modern). I first liked the anthropologie one, but the Stickley one is even better, and has the functionality aspect built in, too. I always like a gadget : ) Just need to make sure that the metals really do work well together and don't clash, but it looks good to me so far.

mj, Chris Stephens' work looks like the type of art DH and I always gravitate to -- nice! I like the ebay table too but I'm not sure if I'm quite feeling it for my space.

I like the Pomona table too but 42" is just too big.

I am definitely leaning toward the reclaimed-wood or antique look, as I love a coffee table with some "age" to it. The Mission Living table looks too new or "perfect" to me.

DH also likes the idea of a round upholstered ottoman but not sure if that's practical.

Round upholstered ottoman could be VERY practical--depending on how you use your coffee table. is it for putting feet on/magazines? Or is it for holding food/etc?

You should look on Etsy for a reclaimed wood table with a metal base...surely SOMEONE is making them. Or perhaps you can find a local artist?

I am not a fan of another metal based table in the area. You have the console table and the end table both with metal bases. I think it would be nice to get something different. Additionally, another solid wood in the darker wood tone feels like too much brown wood for the area. Hence my suggestion to bring in the ivory, as in the adjoining kitchen.

However, another alternative would be an upholstered ottoman, as suggested, or something in copper or slate or stone.

Yes oly and mj... it's fine, it's alright, it would be great for many people... but to me, it feels like a lot of "corners" in one small space. teacats, I saw that table too! And the problem (now I'm really sounding OCD) is that they don't show the table top. They only show it from the side. I wish I could see what the top really looks like. And I wish it was less shiny. I don't like shiny wood! Yes, I'm weird.

oly, ha... we're on the same wavelength as I already saw that table (our current table came from Mohr & McPherson, on clearance fortunately) but mmmm... pricey. But sometimes if DH loves something (see mention of artwork spending above!) he'll go for it. Subtle -- I just emailed him that link at work. I have actually seen that table in person, maybe about a year ago when a client of mine was considering it, and it is really cool.

lori, thanks, and I like that table from Home Dec a lot too, but wish I could see the top. Also, a little gun shy about HD since one of the only times I ordered furniture from them (actually the console table in my pic) it arrived broken. They took a bit off the price, but it was sort of a pain in the neck.

It seems that you are still unable to get an idea of firstly what kind of table you want. I suggest that you try having an aquarium round coffee table or try some modern design.
