For myself, I never considered the original request. There wasn’t enough information given to allow us to provide any direct help to the poster. Besides, I’m not sure the question deserved an answer. But the subject title was “drawing up garden plans”, and there might be any number of people seeking information on the subject. IMO the discussion was appropriate when directed at those clicking on the thread. I suppose I may be a part of the reason this forum has a “reputation”, but I don’t run an expert search service. I mostly confine my help to those who stay around and are willing to participate in self-help. Everyone was a beginner at the start and I have no problem with those having zero knowledge if they have a desire to learn. It’s the hit and run folks I have no time for.

Kalining from Canada, my point is that I have discovered that a lot of so-called Pro-Tech's are not aware of this helpful technique. They are used to fixed piston orifice metering devices, & many appear to be using the superheat method or NO proper charging method, some don't even follow the mfg'ers procedures which in many cases provide NO positive indication as to which metering device the system has. The tech needs to know that the airflow through the coil is within specs & then techs need to know which metering device the system has in order to use the correct charging procedure. As for service techs checking or cutting a hole in a plenum to check, forget it, ask the users how many checked to see what metering device was on the coil, or verified that in any way. When servicing, many are in a hurry to get to the next service call. I would love to see a survey taken on the issue of how many verified which metering device the system had. Because we would "do it right" has zip to do with whatr others are doing. I have witnessed them only checking the suction pressure & nothing else, & saying the system's charge is okay, when I knew it was way off as was the CFM airflow through the E-Coil. When I was working on the design for my kitchen, I drew it up on good-old-fashioned graph paper and then took a picture of it with my digital camera. We didn't have a scanner at the time so this was the fastest way for me to do it. What I do now when I work on other people's layouts is to work in Microsoft's PowerPoint. I downloaded free graph paper off the web, copied it to a PPT presentation, and then created appliances, cabinets, fixtures, etc. to a scale of one box = 6"x6". Then, when I work on a layout, I make a copy of this "master", work up a layout on a slide, save the slide as a "JPEG" (.jpg) file, upload it to Photobucket, and post it here. Regarding the refrigerator -- we have just under 33" b/w the refrigerator handle and the counter edge across from it - and it's much too shallow an aisle! We were stuck with it b/c of the numerous measuring errors on the part of our KD. While it's something we've adapted to - if someone is in the refrigerator no one can pass by - it's not what I wanted! (I was aiming for 48".) . However, it's your home and Kitchen - so it's your choice how to handle it. We're here to give you advice - with no financial benefit accruing from specific designs/appliances/etc. - and it's your choice whether to take it or not. I understand that you're used to what you have and you can't imagine anything better - but keep in mind that: Human beings are very adaptable. We can adapt to anything - good or bad - even the worst layouts! We adapt so well that we tell ourselves it's fine the way it is - we cannot imagine doing it differently or making it better. But, what if it could be better? If you ask just about anyone here who took our advice and changed their layout to make it better, they will tell you they never realized it could be so much better and wondered how they had lived with the issues for so long! (The answer is back to the adaptability of human beings!) Human beings are resistant to change. Even when something can be made better, we resist change. We like what we know and we have a hard time seeing other ways to do things - even if they could be so much better! And, as I mentioned before, we've adapted to what we have - both the good and the bad. [This is not specific to you - we are all resistant to change to some extent!] Once we get past that resistance and start opening up to new ideas, though, it can be amazing what we can come up with - and I don't mean just the people here helping you, I mean you and your family coming up with new ideas as well! So, why not at least try for something better and give others a chance to come up with a better design? If you are not open to looking at other options, then so be it - as I said before, it's your Kitchen, so you can do what you want with it. Good luck with your remodel!
