Hardwood Floors in Master Bedroom
Comments (35)Just looking at the pictures again since I am now ready to install hardwood floors in my home office and just must decide between what type (Engineered or Vinyl or Laminate with no vocs) and which species of wood and which stain. Next year I want to do my bedroom but my budget will only let me do my home office part now. I Love all these pictures so much and I can see I would be happy with any of these floors. Thank you....See MoreConflicted Female: Hardwood or Plywood Under Cabinets?
Comments (19)We ran our tile all the way under everything b/c we had already experienced two DW leaks in the 13 years we've lived here; the water wasn't just under the DW, it also ran under the sink cabinet and the lazy susan on either side of it. We decided that tile would * minimize any water damage to the floor, * minimize leakage to the basement ceiling (kitchen is over the finished section of the basement), * let water run out from under the DW & other cabs w/o being absorbed so we'll see it (like it did on the vinyl), * no worries about making sure the floor under the cabinets is the same height as the rest of the floor, and * if we ever change the layout we don't have to worry about matching flooring later. Now that I've lived w/our new kitchen for many months, I doubt that last will ever happen as our layout works great. But, tile is different than wood as regards to water damage. I suspect that if we had a wood floor we would hav done the same, but I don't know for certain. Listen to those here w/wood floors...they're the "voice of experience" and aren't trying to sell you more hardwood (sales) or minimize their work (GC)....See MoreIs it okay if we only put hardwood floors in our master?
Comments (14)Ditto to Sophie. It would look silly to have hardwood just in the master. They already have hardwood in the main living areas ... it's the bedrooms, halls and stairs that are in question. If this were my house, I'd want hardwood in the halls and stairs first. Why? Because those are the spaces that get most walk-wear. Hardwood in those spaces and carpet in the bedrooms is fine. Hardwood in the master and not the secondary bedrooms is also fine. As for resale, are you looking at selling soon? I wouldn't replace any carpet unless your resale plans are very close -- carpet doesn't do anything for your sales price unless it is new....See MoreMaster bedroom - hardwood floors vs carpet
Comments (4)You don't think dust settles on carpet? It does, and you don't see it. But you do an awful lot of walking in your master with bare feet, grnd dust in with foot oils The rip out when you realize it looks like hell in two years? No thanks !! . Do the hardwood, find a lovely large patterned area rug. In a couple short years, you will thank yourself, and enjoy a higher end look in the meantime. Use the swiffer......: )...See Morenanny2a
