Do any of these in the link below appeal to you? In the sample pix, there are several homes with pretty stone like you're getting, and the roof colors seem to work pretty well with the stone.

I like a more charcoal or slate color, rather than black. Also, with your stone, I'd try to keep the shingles from looking too "fussy" as in a couple of the photos or too variegated in color tones.

I vote for black. I think it will look best with both the stone and the wood. Here's a couple photos of my cedar log home with a black aluminum roof:

I think I'd be looking at weathered browns, with your material selections. The black would be too harsh for me.

I'm with the Black crowd, I currently have a barn red metal one but I absolutely love black shingles. The first home my dh and I put a roof on I gave in and did charcoal grey, they looked horrible within few years. When we built our previous home I won and I was by there this week and the black still looks great!

Will your house be entirely sided in stone or just an accent portion?

Just this little collage is limited, with respect to the overalls of the roof, layout, and relative proportions of materials, but color-wise, here are some samples. Not sure if the orange tones of the wood is what you're doing or simply just stained, so did two versions:

I think SH is right on with brown choices. With your beautiful stone and cedar trims then I also think that is the way to go. I like her first mock up.

How about the Essex Green in the link below? It's not really a GREEN green, more like a dark shingle with greenish undertones. I think it would look great with stone & wood.

Here's a pic of my red roof. The workers just finished about 20 minutes ago. It looks a warmer shade in sun and a cooler shade in shadow. I think it looks great with our stone fireplace:

I am going to vote brown. We have a similar stone to that in the pic you posted. We used a brown roofing material.

I wanted black. DH did not. We drove around for weeks looking at homes before making a decison on the roof/color material. Glad I spent alot of time looking at other homes tho. Looking at the combo in real life helped me since visualizing isn't my long suit.

Now that it is done, I love the brown with the stone.

I would think that a shingle color that leans towards the brown tones would lend itself very nicely to your color choices used elsewhere. The pitch of your roof will greatly affect the appearance of the color that you choose. The picture of your home shows a lot of roof.
I have attached a picture of the house we are building to give you an idea of the colors that I used together. The roof is a GAF Timberline Driftwood color. Good Luck with your choice. BTW, I have three boys too!

Thanks also for everyone who posted picks, I have a hard time visualizing things, which is why I'm having this current problem.

I also agree with the person who mentioned the lighter colors not looking as good for as long as the darks. So many I've looked at that are lighter have dark streaking going on. I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Dh says we should go more brown, but I like how the blacks bring out the grey tones in the stone. However, I do love the first mock up! I guess I need to decide which "look" I'm going for. I just don't know! I'm wanting an old world feel to it for sure. I was thinking the black walnut would be a good way to stay dark but still get the brown tones. But with that first mock up, it really says "old world" more than the black, doesn't it?

I also was concerned about the roof looking busy, like it would compete with the stone in some way.

Oh and the whole house will be done in the stone, if that helps.

Sorry, I thought that link to the shingle gallery would go straight to the gallery I chose. You'll have to click on Heritage 30/50.

Just don't care for that black roof on the house photo. It doesn't relate to the house, imo, and looks perched on there rather than a part of the whole. If you're going for an Old World look, the more orange shutter color feels more Timberline or Mountain style. Woodsy. The stain that's in the virtual shutters has an antiqued, grayed weathered look. Something like that (kind of a Walnut : ) might bring out the gray in the stone also.

I didn't see anything in the Heritage 30/50 that grabbed me. This is the Weathered Wood that's in the Heritage XL line. I think the shingle shape is different? I did like that more squared shingle. Had a European look to it.

That is a lot of roof, and a lot of patterned stone, this color has some variation in the coloring but not so much as to look busy overall.

Do see your final selection in a large, real life example, on a similar roof style/pitch before choosing.

I do see a Weathered Wood on the 30/50 now, though it looks much lighter and grayer than the one above from the XL house.

This is with the above roof changed to the color of the Black Walnut photo above (can't see the brown in there, it just looks like a softer black to me).

Wow SH! That is sooo cool! And I can't believe that I actually like the weathered wood better (and you are right about the shutter color.). My current neighbor has the weathered wood and I thought it would be too plain, but it looks great in your mock up.

I'm going out tomorrow to see if I can find some real life houses to look at. I know there is one really nice home with the black walnut here in town, I'll take a pic. Hopefully I can find some other colors, too.
