I honestly can't decide! PLEASe help!

TODAY I have to tell the carpet installer my color choice. I'm getting Mohawk Smartstrand put in my upstairs bedrooms and in my MB. We have hard wood throughout the rest of the house but can't afford to put it upstairs.

I've chosen some light neutral colors to bring home and also one stone color--looks gray in some rooms brown in others.

However, the lightest is a creamy white and my DH votes for that one (although the decision is mine to make). I have white trim. Will that be too much white?

One step creamier looks too yellow.

One step darker is a mid tone tan like color.

I have 2 hours to decide...

15 yrs. ago, I chose the whitest Berber for my new home brs. and great room, and I love it still, wears like iron, mine still looks new and I use my steam cleaner, not because it is dirty, just to freshen, had a roof leak after a hurricane and carpet got stained, I simply used bleach and steam vac. and you'd never know there was a stain. Yes you can useleach on Berber..I do not know what Smartstrand is however?

I don't know what to suggest. My home has all hardwoods now but the PO who built it had carpet upstairs. It was not quality carpet, but what I liked about it was that it was a very similar color tone to the hardwoods so the flooring seemed like a neutral background that flowed throughout the house. No dramatic changes from room to room. I liked that, but also think a light carpet can brighten a space if you want that.

MrClint, Same deal with citrus and peach trees everywhere here in Fresno. I usually just go knock on the doors of the folks who have huge trees in their front yards, with fruit I like, and ask them if they are "done" harvesting for the year. So far nobody has ever minded me clearing it off. I usually save a bag for them, take as much as my family can eat, and then give the rest to local food closet/church charity places. sklett: really, don't sweat losing the tree. I've lost some myself and I still struggle trying to experiment with my citrus in different locations around my yard. I almost lost a few more this last summer trying to test if container trees could ever acclimate to full southern exposure without shade (nope). Just during the last two weeks I had them in my patio without light, hoping they'd do fine all winter. But I already saw leaves dropping so I had to back-pedal that plan. There is a fine balance between soil temperatures and light they receive and I was too lazy to attempt figuring it out for my micro-climate. It's possible your tree dried out. It's *very* easy to do when you bare root and put it in a new mix that has so much peat in it. I've done it, but caught the problem quick enough. So now when I build a mix with lots of peat, I have to keep misting as I go. Otherwise, you could literally pour 100 gallons of water into a bucket of peat and if it drains out the bottom, only half of your mix is wet. The inside is still bone dry. Either you have to submerge the entire container the first time or make sure the bark was well soaked so that moisture transfers into the peat. Just find some GreenAll bark, open the bag and get it wet, then set it aside somewhere until next spring. You can get a fresh beautiful citrus again when spring arrives. hopefully the bad memories will be forgotten by then and you'll be excited again. Chris

Thanks for all the input and design ideas. I am almost sure on the dining chairs from west elm. https://www.westelm.com/products/finley-high-back-dining-chair-h2914/?pkey=ccontract-grade-furniture%7Ccontract-grade-dining-furniture&isx=0.0.2975 I will be going again in morning to checkout the upholstery colors and try them out to make sure they are comfortable. No kids in the house, only adults, so not worried about food on the carpet. I will rethink this rug placement. I also like the idea of plating some evergreens in front of the fence, so i have a nicer view out those windows. I will update everyone tomorrow once i come back from west elm with the final dining chair decision. This table is 108 inches long. I think 8 chairs should look perfect with it. 10 might be pushing it?

alwaysundecided - I'd love to post pix but I'm a pretty private person (sorry). Like yourself, I like certain things (that may not always mesh together), and I buy them and then play around (often moving them from place to place/room to room), until I have an 'aha' moment. I think you are doing great on your own, and the only thing you are missing is 'self confidence'. Remember, this is YOUR space and no one knows your taste (or has to live with it), other than you and whomever lives with you. We can all share with you our taste/suggestions/etc., but ultimately you are the decision maker. Having said all that, I personally think having night stand (regardless of it being mirrored or not), with a mirror in the back, no longer leaves room for a lamp - too crowded. As well, I think the whole purpose of a night stand is to place things on top of them, and if you have a lamp there it takes away from useable space. Have you considered/thought about small hanging chandeliers placed directly above the nightstands? Low enough so that you can see some of the crystal reflections in the mirror, but not too low that it takes away from the visibility of the mirror?

I think I'd go for the mid tone tan. I've done that before, and the neutral, goes with everything, and hides a bit more dirt, dust and flecks than white.

It shouldn't look too light if you use a dark bedskirt. I have a creamy colored freize in my MB - and cream colored trim, though you can see a difference in the trim and the carpet. They are slightly different, a larger sample may help you really see it in the room. Ask the carpet guy for a larger sample.

Smartstrand is by Mohawk and is supposed to be "Rhino Proof" There's a Youtube video of it---crazy stuff. It's going to cost about $4800 to recarpet. I wish I could put down hardwood upstairs but that is so out of our budget. I LOVE my hardwood family, dining and kitchen!

Jeannie: I already have an 18 x 18" sample of several colors. I would have never narrowed it down without them! It's crazy how all the gray samples I brought home look green or purple in my light. Ugh.

I'm loving the stone color but it's pretty dark.

The mid tone tan is not exciting me at the moment. Too blah? Maybe.

So I guess it's creamy white! At least at the moment...

You seem to really want hardwood. If it is going to cost that much to carpet I would wait and save some more and o the HW.
Also I would not carpet in bathroom.

lyban, No carpet in the bathroom! Absolutely not!

And I LOVE hardwood but I think carpet for my bedrooms is the better choice.

I put white carpeting in my bedroom and I love it BUT someone walked in with dirty shoes and nothing will entirely remove the stain and I've tried everything. So, if it were me, at this point I'd go with a light tan shade but that's just me.

I went with the creamy white and we LOVE it! It's holding up great! But it's only been one day :)
