How to get paint off bare copper?

The electricians on my new house under construction finished the rough-in and removed the jackets from the wires coming into all the junction boxes. They also stripped the insulation of the ends of the wires to get ready for final installation of switches and outlets, but this was before the sheetrock was installed. Now the painter sprayed the paint on the walls and pretty much sprayed all the bare copper wire ends that the electrician was going to use to connect to the switches and outlets. How will the dingleberry electricians remove this paint to make their final connections? Seems to me like they shot themselves in the foot by "pre-stripping" all their wires. I guess they can cut the painted ends off and restrip the wires--of course this means the wires will all be a little shorter. Is this common practice?
