Getting Artsy in the Bathroom
One of my great failings as a home owner and renovator is that I totally ignore my home's "private" spaces. If guests don't see it, it's barely decorated.
That is totally true for my master bathroom, which was renovated, pretty much to perfection, over a year ago. We finished the renovation, painted the walls kelly green, then left it alone. Sans art. And that makes me very sad, indeed.
I come from a long line of people who believe that the bathroom isn't just a good place for art - it's a great place. I'm failing them right now. So this ideabook is in their honor:

These pictures are actually vintage family photos that belonged to the homeowners. I love the way they're stacked up against one another creating a truly striking bathroom space.
This cool stained glass window solves a couple of problems: how to decorate, and how to get natural light without showing the neighbors a little too much.
I'm partial to funny shower curtains, like this one, by artist James Marshall. Slap this in a boring, white bathroom in a rented apartment and you've got a little personality in the bath.
Mirrors on the wall look great - and they're functional, too, when you want to check yourself out.
I really like this serious little sculptural horse. It's unexpected in the marble bathroom, and intriguing.
Like wallpaper, vinyl wall decals are a fantastic way to dress up a casual space. These would be fun in a guest bath or kid's bath.
This simple series of rectangular photos is understated and sophisticated in this tiny bath. Plus, great chandelier!
I like bathroom art that's placed on a shelf - something about the look just appeals to me. I also like that it's easy to switch out the display.
One quick note: when framing these paintings (and the photos and other paintings in pictures below), it's really important to do a good job. The humidity in a bathroom can ruin art, and nobody wants that to happen. It even makes sense to rotate the art out occasionally.
