floor stenciling with craft paint
Comments (3)We did the upstairs where our bedrooms are. We didn't have nice hardwood down, but couldn't afford to put down carpeting like we wanted so I painted them. I just used regular latex paint and kids painted floor with folk art paints for the fun stuff. Then we sealed it with a couple coats of urethane or something like made for floors (it was latex I think). It held up incredibly well and cleaned great with the finish over the top....See MoreBest way to paint over existing stencil?
Comments (4)Did you do the stencil? If you did then you know what kind of paint was used. If it's acrylic or latex, a good blockout primer should be all you'll need. You might get away with not priming but I'd hate to wake up in a few months to find that it bled through. If the stencil is oil - there are oil paint sticks and paint pots that are in decorative painting - then you REALLY need a blockout primer for sure. The other thing to do whether the stencil is oil or latex is to lightly sand it - just a few big swipes with a fine sanding block. You may not see it now but the shape of the stencil can telegraph through a new coat of paint....See MoreStenciling and paint sticks
Comments (1)I have used similar paint sticks before. The ones I used were oil paint sticks. You have to peel a little of the tip off,as it forms a skin, then rub on a paper pallette. They worked really great and did not bleed under the stencil. I felt like I had more control with what I wanted it to look like, less or more paint on my stencil brush, if this makes sense. They last a long time. I had a great experience using them.......See MoreBack-Painted Glass: Soda Glass vs. Glass Kote vs. US Color Glass vs. ?
Comments (2)I‘m just now reading this old query but thought I would answer anyway. I used Glass Kote as a backsplash a few years ago and I have never regretted it. It abuts glass mosaic tile and I sent Glass Kote a piece to match. Perfect! Smooth glass is so much easier to clean, especially behind the sink and stove. It also brings a bit of reflected light into the room, lightening things up. Sorry, but I am not familiar with Soda Glass....See Moregw:craftylady-2006
