Looking for a way to give your walls some fun? Kristin Nicholas may have you covered. When faced with walls of simple whites and pastels in her 1751-built home, the artist took action by painting almost every wall in vivid colors and patterns, such as adding mottled chartreuse and gold in her living room and a fun blue flower pattern to her stairwell. To learn how she did the latter and mimic it in your own home, check out this step-by-step video tutorial.

Using painter’s tape, make a strip from your ceiling to your floor or baseboard. Then make another next to it about 1 inch away. The space between these two pieces will form one stem of your flower pattern. Make another stem 2 to 3 feet from this one. Repeat until you have your pattern laid out.
Use your finger to smooth down the tape. This will ensure that your stem will have a straight edge after you apply paint and remove the tape.
To create the stem, coat the tip of a paintbrush half with one color paint and half with another color paint. Use the brush to stipple paint on the 1-inch space between the strips of tape. Let it dry.

To create the flower stamp, draw a flower pattern of your choice on a sheet of paper, cut it out and glue it to adhesive foam. Then cut the pattern out of the adhesive foam and stick it to a corner of your 1-inch insulation foam. Using an X-Acto knife, cut down about half an inch into the foam around your pattern. Apply pressure to break off the piece.
Use a foam brush to apply paint to the pattern side.

Cut leaf shapes out of adhesive foam and create a stamp the same way you created the flower one. Voilà! You now have a fun wall pattern to enjoy.
