I've noticed that too. Some people take their mirrors and hang it on the wall over the dresser. Mine wouldn't look good that way so I just put it in a closet for now. I figure one of these days mirrors will be popular again. Oh wait. Mirrors are popular, just not the ones that come with the dresser.

I think sets of anything are out of favor right now. If I had a matching chest of drawers and mirror, I think I would probably split them up and move the mirror--- if I liked it--- to a different room. We started doing California is closets in the early 90s and got rid of every bureau we owned except a hand painted one in my DD's room. It's nice to have all the clothes in the closets and we don't miss the dressers.

My DH has a scalloped, tiger oak highboy. Matching mirror! I love it. My dresser is actually a sideboard and has no mirror. Someday I will sell what I have and get a dresser with a matching mirror.

I really could not imagine a dresser without a mirror. Way too functional. We have an Elfa system in the MBR closet, but it's a small closet and not a walk-in. The mirror is necessary for function. DH uses it every morning to knot his tie.

We have a dresser that had a huge mirror/shelf unit that sat on top. Because I now like clean lines, we removed the unit. At first I definitely missed the mirror, found myself "looking" in the that direction. But what I don't miss is the chunky unit itself. I am thinking about adding back a round mirror above the dresser. Now I have to find a home for the unit I removed; which weighs over 75 lbs.

I guess I am good then! DH made our bedroom set and with it came my "vanity". The mirror was so spendy he wouldn't go there...I found a tri fold in a scratch and dent room at the local furniture store. The stain/finish was one shade off. A friend suggested I not worry about fixing it. I have used it as is for 14 years. I use it, I love it, it stays!! Then again my set is natural oak and I think it is FABULOUS. Lucky for me the latest trend fashion police are not welcome in my bedroom!!

Year's ago we bought a beautiful dresser, but I nixed getting the mirror on purpose. Every day I regret that choice.

But isn't the whole point of a dresser to be convenient while you dress? Who doesn't look in the mirror to check themselves out when dressed? I keep my comb on my dresser and often use it to straighten out stray strands. I look at the back of me to be sure nothing is showing that shouldn't. I could use the bathroom mirror for my hair, but I can't see much below my shoulders.

The practical side of me would not allow me to get rid of perfectly good matching mirrors to buy one that doesn't match. I know others would not agree.

I have a set of John Widdicomb bedroom furniture. The dresser has two matching mirrors, and I like them a lot. Along with being pretty and useful, they make the room look bigger. Perhaps rooms don't photograph so well with mirrors over the dresser and that's why we don't see them as often on a decorating site.

But, to each her/his own.

You don't see them much anymore, but if you like them you should use them. When we remodeled the bathroom we put in a door with a full length mirror facing into the BR and ditched the dresser mirror...it looked awkward with the tv, jewelry box, etc. in front of it.

I have always thought there was more latitude with matching sets in the bedroom, it wasn't the great offense like matching living room furniture.
My master bedroom is large and I could take the mirror down for storage but it is huge and ornate but I still like it and the practical part does not want to get rid of a good mirror for a new different one. I'd post a picture but I know most of you will hate what I have and tell me to take it down!
I am a little tired of the style but I feel a little better about it now.

I do use it as a mirror, so that part I will keep. I'd love to have a large, modern frame to balance the heaviness of the dresser and lean it against the wall, perhaps someday.

And I definitely use the dresser! Our walk in closet is not small but I can't fit everything in there.
