whats current in closet doors biford or slide?
Comments (37)We prefer the bifolds a LOT. We do not put the bifold on a track at the top, so we can swing it out of the way. To keep it from going into the closet, or pantry, there is a stop only at the top, The bottom of the bifold swings freely, and I do not have to worry about hurting my feet on any track, or getting dirt out of the track either. We are also going to use these bifolds on our master closet. With french door style, 10 lights per panel. We are putting clerestory windows inside our walk in closet, going into a room bumpout which will lead to removal of a pair of windows and the loss of that light source. So we will still have the light, still have the wide closet opening, and we will have privacy as well with no curtains. The bifold french style is sold by Home Depot. Check the brand Pinecroft, which they generally do not stock but do order for you. Plus, you can always mount the doors with separate hinges on either side of a doorway, making them look like a real pair of french doors. I've done that before. Looked nice....See Moresuggest end of hallway closet doors, something unique?
Comments (34)First of all, I was going to suggest something very similar to sweeby's. Hallways lend themselves to the idea of a destination. A way to combine function and decor is to follow what sweeby said. But I here you on the "we have so much to do" rant. The problem with hallways, and yours is like mine, they are sometimes narrow and cramped. Cool colors recede, warm colors advance. I would try to find a door color warmer than the wall color in order to "shorten" the hallway. Even a nice very golden-toned wood would be nice. Maybe something with interesting carving to emphasize the "destination" aspect. Or, what about using the normal door the closet comes with and upholstering it in a beautiful accent fabric, and then adding maybe a nice soft swag valance and "tails" hanging above on the header. Could be something soft like a tone-on-tone toile, or it could be something more bolder with a "statement" toward the style of decorating you're choosing. Maybe a soft sage-green bamboo motif. The fabric on the door can sort of "suggest" the function of what's behind it and no one will confuse it with getting lost on the way to the bathroom! I think fabric would soften the space. The stone floor speaks "hard," and then you have a lot of right-angles with the door frames. Looks great, but my eye wants to look for softness. I vote "no" on the mirror. Not in that narrow, bulls-eye of a hallway. And, like I said, I have one. Also, for the pictures on the two walls, I would try to keep their frames in a tone very near the color of the walls. The perspective in that hallway doesn't need bold lines to move you down it; in fact, if you want people to linger I would suggest as little contrast between the frames and the wall color as possible. And, yes, that length of hall lends itself very well to track lighting. I can see that curvy bendable kind meandering down the hall, with spots turned this way and that for illuminating your photos. Good luck!...See MoreBedroom Closet door suggestions appreciated!
Comments (12)THank you for the responses. Very appreciated! Here's another picture of the room to get some sort of idea what our tastes are. I def don't want a cheap feeling or looking door! There is room for french doors and that's definitely a consideration. I'm a bit overwhelmed for some reason on doors! We literally have no doors in the apt! We removed them all when we started the renovations. Leaning towards single panel doors but again have not made any choices yet. A question is how tall to make the closet doors. Ceiling height i a little over 8 feet. The mirrored bi-folds that we removed were floor to ceiling. We have the same set up in the hallway closet that we redid and that also has no doors! For the hallway, I think bifolds make best sense as I don't really like sliding doors and the hallway is only 38" wide. I've attached a picture of the messy unfinished hall closet! That's about 7 feet x 28" deep. Also need a bedroom door, hall bathroom door, master bathroom door (in another thread) The apartment master bedroom closet and hallway closet seemed to have been designed for floor to ceiling bi folds..Ceiling height 98" I am wondering if it will look a little nicer to build down a few inches for these closets and am searching for ideas. Thanks again for the comments! Entry to bedroom Hall Closet Bedroom...See MoreHow to lock mirrored bifold door?
Comments (24)Locking 1 closet is a common practice among people who own vacation rentals, of which I’m one. If you clearly state in the description the number of closets available to the renters, state that one is reserved for owner’s use, and choose one to lock thats not “prime real estate” (like the master closet or the only closet in the bedroom), it’s not a problem. We have a bi-fold (mirrored) hall closet where we keep a few totes with personal items. Nothing valuable, just a few things we want to have easy access to when we use the home ourselves. We also have an identically sized hall closet for renters to use. I think greg_2015 brings up a really good point. A top-mounted childproof lock is an easily installed deterrent, which will keep the honest people honest, as they say. If someone is determined to break into a closet, I guess they will, but I think a simple childproof top-mounted lock will be enough to keep respectful renters out of that particular closet....See Moremjlb
