what size & where to buy decent mirrors over vanities
Comments (11)A few suggestions... There's a Restoration Hardware outlet at the Tulalip Outlet mall so you might find a few deals there. ( I remember you mentioned living in Edmonds, so it might be worth the drive up north.) Or, as Babs suggested, having a glass and mirror shop custom make a nice beveled mirror is very reasonable. When we remodeled our master bath we made a frame with some nice trim/molding that we bought from our cabinet maker (to match our cabinets) and had a mirror with an extra large bevel to fit in the frame. For our guest bathroom I found a simple, wide, solid wood, oversized picture frame at Aaron Bros. on sale for $20, and a local glass shop put a beveled mirror in it for me for $40. It looks fabulous! (We used a metal bracket called a hangman which makes it easy and safe to hang large, heavy objects.) In regards to the size, personally I think bigger is better, especially vertically. I've always noticed nicer hotels have wonderfully large mirrors - they really add a feeling of spaciousness to what are usually small rooms....See MoreWhich mirror for over dressers?
Comments (11)I agree with Pal. Your things are more "country" (modern country?) and darker than the choices offered. I see frames in a similar wood to the furniture or like the iron on your bed - which is what I'd likely choose. Also, I'd only hang a mirror over the low dresser. For the tall one, perhaps a tabletop mirror, if he wants one, since it's too tall to see anything significant reflected. I'd put a decorative item on the surface if I felt something was needed there for balance....See MorePlease critique my TV size over fireplace
Comments (28)I know you have quite a bit to read through here already, so I will try to keep this brief. Because of the doorways leading into your room, your sofa layout is most definitely the most practical, and having the TV over the fireplace provides with the best view from both seating locations so I would stick to your gut on that one. With regard to the tile, I would make sure to select a dark grout that blends in well. Without seeing the actual tile, my best guess is that a taupe would still provide you with a bit of contrast which you like in your inspiration picture without creating too much of a color difference to be bothersome while watching TV. When DH held up the cardboard over the fireplace, it was perfect. My suggestion is to get a TV mount that tilts so that you can have it slightly facing downwards to maximize viewing comfort. You can also certainly have a wood mantlepiece. However, for all of this to look great, I think you need to extend your tile to the corners where the wall bends. If you have a professional tile installer do the installation they can cut the tiles at an angle so it ends right into the wall. Otherwise, you can order a tile liner for the edges for a finished look. I attached a picture of a fireplace I did in grey with the TV up high with a tilt mount so you can see an example of it in action. Comments (9)You only asked about the mirror orientation, but you might want to look at lots of photos of rooms to see what appeals to you, and put them in an ideabook or save them on your device. It would help you narrow down your “likes” and give you some direction. Everyone here is going to have an opinion of what could look good, but it may not be what YOU like, and you’re going to get 10 different style directions. Just sayin’....See MoreP O
