Which dresser for DD's room?
Comments (14)At age 9, my DD can reach all the drawers. What I've always done with her is to put the current season's clothes in the most easily accessable drawers and move the out-of-season clothes to the less accessable drawers. So far, it's working really well--girls seem to collect more clothes and accessories than boys so planning for enough storage in a small room has been a challenge for both my girls. I bought the highboy along with a matching bookcase from a college student whose mom had painted them for her when she was a girl. They were painted a seafoam green which looked nice in pictures, though paint had become a bit chippy. DD wanted them painted white to coordinate with aqua walls. The finish was fairly good on this and the bookcase, though I did have to sand, paint, prime, etc. I didn't strip the paint, instead used the Bulleye Primer which worked well. Here they are originally: I thought I had a better pic of the highboy the way we had decorated it, but what I did was to get some doll stands for her American Girl dolls and put them on top. Here is a pic with it next to the desk I ended up using: And here is the bookcase: I love vintage rooms and always enjoy seeing others' projects. Your DD's is shaping up very nicely!!...See MoreAre Mirrors over Dressers Passe?
Comments (11)But isn't the whole point of a dresser to be convenient while you dress? Who doesn't look in the mirror to check themselves out when dressed? I keep my comb on my dresser and often use it to straighten out stray strands. I look at the back of me to be sure nothing is showing that shouldn't. I could use the bathroom mirror for my hair, but I can't see much below my shoulders. The practical side of me would not allow me to get rid of perfectly good matching mirrors to buy one that doesn't match. I know others would not agree. I have a set of John Widdicomb bedroom furniture. The dresser has two matching mirrors, and I like them a lot. Along with being pretty and useful, they make the room look bigger. Perhaps rooms don't photograph so well with mirrors over the dresser and that's why we don't see them as often on a decorating site. But, to each her/his own....See Moretiny bedroom artwork and mirrors
Comments (6)May we see that big piece of art? Is that one he wants to keep? Have you considered fiber shades for the windows? How about putting the headboard where the smaller picture is and using wall hung corded lamps on either side wall with that big art 5" above the headboard? Not sure I care for the rug and it looks to be a tight fit in the space. It is very traditional and you can get a more contemporary one. You might appreciate the washable ones at Ruggable. I just put this one in a kids area in our vacation rental cabin. They have lots of abstract blue ones....See MorePlease help with mirror over dresser
Comments (28)Lynartist, thank you for all the pictures. You have a very diplomatic style of communication which is much appreciated here! We like the first oval the most, with the first of the last three a close second for me. And I love the idea of adding gold leaf, although my husband almost spit up his coffee when I read him your remarks about adding this to his repertoire! (Apparently, he is well versed in this technique from his former profession). Your updated sconce was interesting- I had something very similar installed over our fireplace mantle. Ditched the shade, shortened the shaft, and it is now very similar to the ones I purchased for over the dresser, except in black. (And it was the doors that we were referring to as shaker, rather than the dresser. I also thought the dresser was Chippendale style, rather than Early American you mentioned...)...See Morechrissyh3
