Both nice. I do think the smaller one is too tall to comfortably use as a bedside table. I know the current dry sink is the same height, but as she gets older and wants to read in bed or put her laptop on the side, I think it would be nicer to have the bedside piece be easier to reach.

That said, I bet if you took off the wheels and even shortened the legs to just above the little knobby area above the wheels, it would be a great height and wouldn't hurt the proportion of the piece at all.

I like the mirror that is on the dresser now.

This room is going to be beautiful! I love all of your choices. I understand what you mean about pulling the drawers out - I do think the smaller one would be easier for her to use. My one concern though, would be storage. My daughter's dresser is probably the same size as the smaller of your two choices and it doesn't hold enough. As she grows, her clothes will only get bigger! I do love the idea of both but I think 42 in. may be a little too tall for nightstand purposes. If I had to choose one I'd go with the larger of the two.

Les - what a great idea to take the wheels off and shorten the legs of the smaller one! I think it would be a much better size to use as a bedside dresser - maybe 30-32" tall? DH would also probably not want to have wheels on the hardwood floor.

It is a good width, since her chair on the other side of the bed is approximately the same width, and I'd love to have a bedside lamp for her to read in bed.

southernfrenchie - you're right. The smaller dresser alone won't be enough drawer space. She has closet organizers but they're all being used for toys and games for now!

Thank you, loribee and cooper. I did make the quilt when she was a baby but will be packing it away with her other bedding that I made :-( Maybe someday she'll want it for her children.

I spent last night searching CL for other dressers of a similar style and found a few that were unfinished, including one that looks small enough to use as a bedside table. They were less expensive but the sellers haven't called me back yet. I might drive down to look at the larger one today but I know I could save money if I found dressers that I could finish myself.

I guess I should list her current dresser to fund my shopping! The red bookcase sold yesterday - so many memories drove away with it but it will be used in a another baby's nursery now.

Update - we just moved her new (old) bookcase into her room. I believe it's more English style with the bun feet. Much as I LOVE the leggy dressers, I don't know if they would complement the bookcase. Am I wrong?

We also moved the bed in front of the window and the drysink next to it - 42" is much too tall. I think the tallest I could go would be 30-31" and shorter would probably be better.

I found this small English pine dresser with bun feet. Maybe this would work better as a bedside dresser? I would paint it a glazed ivory finish.

I think the leggy dressers are kind of feminine, a good balance for the heavy bookcase, and work with her very delicate bed.

If you want to change out the height on the smaller dresser as was previously discussed, you could add some kind of bun or other feel to it and remove the legs completely.

Speaking of the bed, if you are going to get new hardware for the bookcase (see other thread) you might look for something round that mimics the shape and design of the round ornaments on her bed. Not the color, of course, but the design.

I actually drove to see a dresser that was similar to the smaller one, but a better size. It looked good in the CL picture but it was a mess as far as the drawers being broken and not opening easily (and I'm sure I asked about this before driving there!). It also felt a little Mission style, so I passed. DH doesn't need another project fixing drawers!

I might go see the English pine dresser if the price is right. It's a bit tall for bedside at 31" but a nice size for storage.

I already posted this on my other thread a/b the CL hutch, but I found a large dresser! It needs refinishing but it's solid and was a very good price - much lower than the two above.

It has legs so it might balance out the heavier bookcase as Les mentioned, but they're rounder that the thin legs on the dressers above. The attached mirror is almost heart shaped - very sweet - and has a frame that's similar to the barley-twist trim on the hutch.

I'm going to look at this antique pine dresser tomorrow to see if it'll work next to my DD's bed. It has bun feet like the hutch.

I hope these will all work together if I paint the two dressers in the same glazed ivory finish.

I'm not sure how much space you have to work with, but as far as storage goes I used a highboy in my 9 year-old DD's room and it works very well. I really like that the drawers are deeper so that I can fold pants in half and set them in front-to-back. Only downside is that it is really too tall to put a mirror on top. Are you planning to put a desk in your DD's room? I know she is still young but if you want the room to be something she can grow with, it would be good to reserve a spot for that.

valinsv - I was considering using a highboy instead of a dresser and mirror but DD wouldn't be able to reach the top drawers yet.

I love your DD's dresser. Did you paint it yourself and was the wood finish in good condition?

We're going to have to replace the veneer on the top of this dresser before I paint it. I didn't realize that when I bought it but hopefully it won't be too difficult. I'm not used to veneered furniture. Most of mine is solid wood.

At age 9, my DD can reach all the drawers. What I've always done with her is to put the current season's clothes in the most easily accessable drawers and move the out-of-season clothes to the less accessable drawers. So far, it's working really well--girls seem to collect more clothes and accessories than boys so planning for enough storage in a small room has been a challenge for both my girls.

I bought the highboy along with a matching bookcase from a college student whose mom had painted them for her when she was a girl. They were painted a seafoam green which looked nice in pictures, though paint had become a bit chippy. DD wanted them painted white to coordinate with aqua walls. The finish was fairly good on this and the bookcase, though I did have to sand, paint, prime, etc. I didn't strip the paint, instead used the Bulleye Primer which worked well. Here they are originally:

I thought I had a better pic of the highboy the way we had decorated it, but what I did was to get some doll stands for her American Girl dolls and put them on top. Here is a pic with it next to the desk I ended up using:
