Love the rug and the chandelier. It would look great painted aqua since the ceiling will probably be white. As for it working is the chain long enough that it could be pulled over and hung above her bed? And for only ten dollars you could possibly rewire it. Think I'd call a local lamp parts store and ask how much it would cost to rewire it. I can just see some pretty chandy shades on it with beads all round each one. You can always add crystals too it too.

Can you post pictures of the FLOR samples you ordered?

I'm not sure I'm crazy about the light fixture. It looks like something you would put over a dining room table and I'm thinking it may be too big for a bedroom. I think something like this would be cute if it was white instead of pink. Of course, it's not $10 like the CL one :)

I love the rug. If you painted that brass chandelier white and added some colorful clip on shades and crystals to make it shabby chic like that pink one from Lamps Plus (that Laurie posted), it would look nice. Glad you bought the aqua furniture it is going to make a great room for your daughter.

I love the furniture and would leave it the aqua. I would not paint the chandy white if the ceiling is white unless you are going to add colorful shades and beads. Otherwise do it in a soft color.

The room looks like it will be gorgeous.

I don't think you can do much with beads/crystals for that kind of chandelier, frankly. It would just look like a colonial chandelier you stuck some crystals on. I'd keep looking if you don't want to use it as is.

Here's another viewpoint. The acqua rug is beautiful and would work, but it has a thick nap which will make it harder to keep clean and harder to roll out a trundle bed on. FLOR (you know I am an advocate) would work really well here. I would go with a light color. Spots come up very fast with water and microfiber cloth. Believe me, I know. We host our teenage son's band practise in our LR periodically and everything has been spilled on our off-white FLOR, with no bad results. (Band practise will be held there again this afternoon.)

I love the bedding and think the painted furniture looks great as is. Plus, given that the room is very small, a simple color palette probably would work best. Could you do something like this?
1. Light FLOR floor.
2. Existing furniture color (why go through the trouble of painting that is so good already?)
3. Some light neutral on the walls.
4. Acqua ceiling (med, not very dark). It would give the room a fun burst of color.
5. An acqua or lime chandelier (pick color at end, after everything else is in the room).

I vote for a crystal chandelier with aqua beads .....

And yes -- A thick rug does makes moving things around difficult .....

OK, I'll pass on the chandelier for now since it'd only take up space until I get the other components in place.

Delta: When I ordered my samples they were all blues/teals/etc. as I'm nervous about a light/white carpet. Onscreen nothing looked like it really matched colorwise like this one does. I did check out the white/cream on the website--have no idea which samples to pick as they all looked pretty much the same. I could spend a fortune on their samples--shame they are only 3/$5. Do you have any recommendations?

We have a thick rug there now (flowers on ivory background and VERY dirty which is why I shy away from an ivory rug--yes I could clean ivory FLOR squares, but do I really want to on a regular basis?) It is a tad awkward pulling in/out the trundle, but we don't do that too often vs. the comfort of having a place she can spread out with her stuff and having the color she likes. More to pt. for her could be her little toys may not stand up on the carpet. Oh well, I'll just keep a close watch on it and hope it doesn't get sold out before my samples arrive.

I think that aqua chest is *adorable* as is!

The chandelier I think could be perked up, but you can probably find something closer to the style of the room for not much more if you shop around a bit longer.

zipdee: If I keep that color for the furniture, what would you recommend for the wall color? What would you recommend for a rug? I love how your DDs' room came together and want to create something similar in terms of fun and color on a smaller scale for my DD. I'm a bit stymied about color combinations--plus dealing with the preferences of an 8-year-old.

I did find another rug that could work. It's a bit lower pile (0.75 vs. 1.0 for the shag rug). No feedback tho...

val -- Do you have a DWR or a Lumens near you? Both these stores have large samples of FLOR that you can check out for free. (Probably other places that carry modern furnishing have FLOR, too).

In terms of keeping FLOR clean, I would get one of their low nap versions (which is almost all FLOR carpet tiles). The short fibers make cleaning easy because there is almost no place for dirt to hide. Vacuum periodically. If you have a steam mop with micro fiber cloth, just run it over FLOR every month or so. No need to use cleaning chemicals or rent a rug cleaner. Really, FLOR is about as easy to keep clean as linoleun. That said, it isn't all that much more comfortable to sit on than linoleum! So if D wants to play on the floor, it might not be a good choice. FLOR adds warmth, quiet, some softness, and color -- but otherwise consider FLOR (at least their low-nap tiles) to be pretty similar to a hard floor.

Unfortunately, I've never heard of either of those stores. I'll check their website to see if they have a local dealer. Sounds easy to clean, but DD may prefer the cushy rug as she still likes to sit and play on floor with her toys. Also, her arts & crafts.... which is why the cleaning/dirt hiding factor is so impt. I'd be totally embarrassed to show pic of current carpet.

You asked zipdee about wall color if you kept the furniture as it is. I'd recommend a paler shade of them. Take a drawer with you to the paint store and have them color match and go at least three or four shades lighter. Just a hint of color. I believe you mentioned the other rooms in your home are pale in color. I'd try to stick with about the same depth of color for these walls too.
As for a carpet. How about buy what looks great and a couple floor cushions so when she's doing messy things on the floor you can roll up the rug and she can sit on the cushions?

Val .. There's a couple different ways you could go if you kept the furniture the aqua color. Like JGTBM suggested, a paler color of the aqua would work out wonderful. Another suggestion, but only if it would fly with your daughter's dreams for her room, would be to pull that pretty pale lime green out of the bedding and put it on the walls ( I did that in the girl's bathroom here) then keep playing off the the aqua/green/white combo in the accessorises. I like the idea of the short napped Flor rugs a lot. Here we went with lime green flotaki rugs which I found on a very good sale. They aren't easy to keep clean at all, the girls aren't allowed messy stuff on them, that's saved for the art table area only. I like the idea of adding some comfy floor cushions to hang out on, we have floor mat cushions here and they get used a lot by the girls and their friends.

You got the aqua furniture! I absolutely love that dresser.

The rug color is great, but not crazy about the brass chandelier. I think Target has some pretty little crystal chandeliers that would be perfect - add a little bling!

Look at this one at Ikea, it's adorable and would be good for your DDs room. By the time you painted, wired, fixed up that CL chandy, you could get this!

I actually have a chandy like that CL one that is painted white and I drilled holes and hung crystals on each 'cup'. Then I added little shades. It's hanging in my master bath, the ceiling is about 8 1/2 feet and the chandy is a little low...DH can hit his head if he's not careful. But *I* like it!

I *love* the furniture! I would definitely keep it the color it is-- it looks great with the bedding.

I was thinking the same thing as Zipdee-- to do the walls in the apple green from the bedding. It would look so pretty with the furniture. The other option would be to do a very very pale turquoise/aqua. I love these colors. I'm working on a sewing/craft area for myself, and it's going to be pale yellow/turquoise/pale green.

The rug is pretty and looks very soft, but I don't think it would be very practical to play on or to clean. I'm guessing you couldn't vacuum it. I would keep looking.

I'm not a fan of the chandelier. I think it's too big for a bedroom and not "frilly" enough. I have seen cute small crystal ones at Lowes, Home Depot and Target.

I cannot wait to see this room when it's done!

I picked up a bunch of paint chips today at BM--many of the ones recommended on the aqua paint thread. In comparing them to the seafoam furniture and the bedding, I've not yet found a color to compliment them both. It may just be the lighting though and will look through them again tomorrow. Contenders are BM Waterfall and BM Sea Isle (zipdee's color). Paladian Blue looks nice with the furniture, but at night it just looked muddy and didn't go nicely with the lime in the bedding. It's a lovely color though--wish I'd seen it when I was doing my room. What I am finding is colors that go with the furniture are more in the blue/green range, but if that color is not vibrant then it makes the lime in the bedding washed out. DD picked the bedding herself so I'd like to work with that. DD wants to use the white sheer dotted WTs (not the ones in the pic). I moved the furniture aroung and hung up both WTs, but will take pics tomorrow in natural light.

I really don't want DD's room to become a touch-me-not place with lots of rules--esp. when friends come over. Gut feel is this rug would be more comfy and show less dirt. I would still need to spot wash as needed, most likely.

Some other ideas I've been brainstorming is to paint the furniture a creamy white, but rub through to the aqua paint in some places or do a creamy white, but do a two-tone look with at least the desk and the chair (perhaps table top also) are a vibrant aqua and then for the bulletin board above, buy a new one with larger frame and do the frame in the more saturated aqua. DD and my DS have suggested painting the dresser white, but leaving drawers as-is. Right now DD prefers white with aqua walls, but I'm sure if I can find a workable colorscheme she will be happy. I've not shown her all the color samples, but want to narrow it down to 2-3 choices first.

Big mistake with older two was letting them see all the colors at the paint store and then they want the most saturated ones.

I forgot to mention that I ordered two of the aqua lamps. Not sure if I'll use one or both--but can always return the extra one.

I'm thinking the chandelier my be overkill at this point, but will wait until the end to finalize.

Great bones for her room.

You have some really cute furnishings going on. I had the exact same vision as Deltabreeze. I think the CL chandy is overpriced and you could probably get it for $5. I just took down the same one on my DR. It's typical builder stuff. Heck, I would send you mine that's sitting in the basement for free, but I think the mailing would cost the same.

I have really gotten into painting ceilings with color. The results have been fabulous even in smaller rooms.

I can't wait to see the room all put together. I think it's going to look great. Much as I love the aqua furniture, you can't go wrong by painting it white and then rubbing it back a bit to show the color beneath. I like the idea of using the aqua as an accent color.

When letting your DD make choices as to colors, accessories, etc., you might want to try what I usually do with my DH. I pick out 2 or 3 (preapproved by me) options, whether it be furniture, paint, stone, etc., then ask him his preference of those choices. If I didn't do this, I think my house would look completely like a bachelor pad/hunting lodge!

Val, when I saw the lamps were from JCP I knew just which style you picked. I love those lamps! Much wiser than a chandelier!

Love the furniture as is. Adore that lamp. Really like the rug Walnutcreek found, but like the one you showed also and hers may have too much pattern with the bedspread and curtains. I think the idea of light walls, a chandelier with some sparkle, and an aqua ceiling sounds wonderful and would be lots of fun.

I let my DS pick his paint color when he was young (around 5) and we ended up with an amazingly bright, saturated green. It actually turned out to be quite wonderful for many, many years. We didn't change it until he was in 8th grade, although we did change the bedding several times as he got older.

I went ahead and moved the highboy and bed position. Bad news is that I don't think the daybed centered under the window idea is going to work as it leaves only around 20" per side which seems a waste of space. So then I will need to scratch my plan to use the panels--unless I can shorten them? I can get a top valance in either pattern--DD likes the sheer dots, though will wait to finalize until other items are finalized. I also had ordered a lime lamp in case it started looking like too much aqua.

On the paint front, DD has one lime green accent wall now. I don't think the desk really works with color. If I keep furniture the present color I will need to go with a real light wall color--still sifting through my options here and will wait until my FLOR samples come in on the 13th. I feel a solid rug is best for her as her room starts looking very "busy" easily with all her paranephilia. I mostly want the rug to protect my hardwood floor (only three years old). Already there are 3 ink stains which I've mostly gotten out--but if there are any stains, I'd rather the rug is stained and not the floor.

I didn't much care for the desk next to the dresser as I had before so moved it. I do like that oak hutch bookcase for the storage, may keep it awhile or swap it out with the new bookcase at some point. I can definitely say I am glad for the additional storage of the highboy since DD is a pack-rat!

Old dresser will go but am keeping there for now since it has all her clothes.

So, what do you think in terms of furniture layout? No where else for the bed really if I want to have access to the trundle.

I did find another bed couple of daybed options on CL. I'd rather not paint this one since it's part of a set. DS has other bed. Funny I've toyed with painting his black, but can't seem to paint either because it's a "set."

I almost think a more saturated color would work with the aqua furniture. That is, unless you go light and paint the ceiling aqua.

This is going to be such a marvelous room for your DD when you are done-it is coming together nicely. Also, like the dotted sheers, too!

the great news is that that the bedding looks wonderful with the furniture. I still like the idea of a light neutral on the walls and floor -- and aqua on the ceiling, but no matter which way you go, your DD will have a wonderful room!

I'm torn between the iron and wood daybeds, but if the iron is what your daughter really wants then go for it. No paint involved! The bedding looks great with the new furniture.

Just adding this as a thought. With the desk having a wood top (great for durability) and the chair is currently stained wood and in great shape (which could be brightened up with just a seat cushion) I'm curious if the wood daybed would work without painting it? Oh and have you talked to that woman? Her add is confusing about the mattresses coming with it and then adding that they don't? I'm confused anyway.
