White & gray kitchen reveal, lots of pics!
Comments (135)The measurement is of the counter, not including the doorway. The cabinet to the left of the hood is 15" and to the cabinet to right of the hood is 27"....See Moreeclectic mcm kit/dining/half bath reveal (LOTS pics)
Comments (44)Thanks again everyone. I just wanted to add that we definitely shared the "trepidation" some of you mentioned when we first contemplated renovating the spaces. I think in retrospect it was a good thing that the job of selling our previous house prevented us from moving into this home until a month before the demo began. I think if we had lived here for very long it would have been much harder to take on such a big remodel (and I can definitely relate to why the second owners chose to change nothing.) We couldn't have accomplished this without our fantastic GC and cabinetmaker. Our cabinetmaker took our original vision and made it so much better. It was he who designed the shape of the bar table to match the angle of kitchen counter and designed almost on the spot the boomerang shelves when we discovered that the fireplace stone didn't go all the way down to the counters. His company does custom work at very reasonable prices -- if you live in the Twin Cities area, I can recommend them highly. rhome410 -- below is the original floor plan. The home is a split level (the floor plan shows only the top floor of the split levels) The only structural changes we made were: 1) to eliminate the wall of cabinetry and shorten the half wall between the kitchen and dinette area; 2) lengthen the half bath by removing the doggy bath in the laundry area ellendi -- great idea! in fact, our home will be part of a home remodeling tour later this summer AngAx -- I agree that homes in WI are more standardized than we were used to (we are originally from the west coast.) However, after buying our home, we became more attuned to finding the MCM gems.... they are here and SO much more affordable than on the west coast. p.s. I love white kitchens too :) flyleft -- your enthusiasm cheered my DH up amazingly! (He is overall very happy with the move and renovations but at times laments the year of our life dedicated to it :) Re: the pottery on the boomerang shelves, the vintage cannisters were a gift from a dear friend in France. The rest have been purchased from artisan potteries in France. louisanapurchase -- "looks more original than the original" -- wow -- thanks so much. We couldn't have hoped for more. javachik -- It sings to us too! Thanks!...See MoreFinished kitchen reveal, lots of pics...
Comments (58)Russ, the kitchen proper is 21'10" x 13'10", the area just past the bar sink where kitchen table sits is 13'4". The island is 87.5" x 66" -- which I just realized, because you made me look at the plan, they shorted me a few inches! The plan calls for 67 7/8". (Not that I care one bit, I never want to see the countertop people again.) The overhang is 15" at the top and 16.5" on the side and completely comfortable. Tibb, the counter is walnut, not stained, we chose walnut for its natural darker color. Since we've had them I've just been putting mineral oil on them, but they constantly feel and look dry to me. With crumbs from toaster and coffee and wine and bar stuff, they are constantly being wiped. So just this weekend I sanded them down to remove any trace of mineral oil. I have applied one coat of tung oil, have to wait 24 hours between coats and then I want to apply two more coats. We shall see. I originally went with mineral oil because I thought I'd cut on them, but they are too beautiful to cut on! So I'd rather have a bit more protection on them, and hopefully easier maintenance, I was bad keeping up with the mineral oil....See MoreWide Galley Kitchen reveal (lots of details and pictures)
Comments (41)@kawerkamp: My ledge sink is 50". I did not have a ton of space but I fell in love with the concept of a ledge sink with a movable cutting board. It is indeed very useful and makes prepping a breeze. I also had very good experience with Dan Sullivan. Send him an email or call him, and he will respond to you within hours, even during weekends! @R S: I went through many iterations of the design including a couple which involved making the kitchen open. But it just did not flow with the rest of the house. Also it did not suit our style of cooking. I am not against open kitchens, it just has to work for you!...See Moremotherof3sons
