Final Reveal (Kitchen Complete!); Lots of Pics and details
Comments (50)Upon further investigation :) My wife, who does most of the cooking, says she uses the peninsula for most of the prep work (I guess I need to pay more attention!). Dishes go directly into the dishwasher or into the sink (we don't leave dishes on the counter, .....). **My cooking style requires minimal prep so I just use the spot beside the range :) Hope this helps....See Moreeclectic mcm kit/dining/half bath reveal (LOTS pics)
Comments (44)Thanks again everyone. I just wanted to add that we definitely shared the "trepidation" some of you mentioned when we first contemplated renovating the spaces. I think in retrospect it was a good thing that the job of selling our previous house prevented us from moving into this home until a month before the demo began. I think if we had lived here for very long it would have been much harder to take on such a big remodel (and I can definitely relate to why the second owners chose to change nothing.) We couldn't have accomplished this without our fantastic GC and cabinetmaker. Our cabinetmaker took our original vision and made it so much better. It was he who designed the shape of the bar table to match the angle of kitchen counter and designed almost on the spot the boomerang shelves when we discovered that the fireplace stone didn't go all the way down to the counters. His company does custom work at very reasonable prices -- if you live in the Twin Cities area, I can recommend them highly. rhome410 -- below is the original floor plan. The home is a split level (the floor plan shows only the top floor of the split levels) The only structural changes we made were: 1) to eliminate the wall of cabinetry and shorten the half wall between the kitchen and dinette area; 2) lengthen the half bath by removing the doggy bath in the laundry area ellendi -- great idea! in fact, our home will be part of a home remodeling tour later this summer AngAx -- I agree that homes in WI are more standardized than we were used to (we are originally from the west coast.) However, after buying our home, we became more attuned to finding the MCM gems.... they are here and SO much more affordable than on the west coast. p.s. I love white kitchens too :) flyleft -- your enthusiasm cheered my DH up amazingly! (He is overall very happy with the move and renovations but at times laments the year of our life dedicated to it :) Re: the pottery on the boomerang shelves, the vintage cannisters were a gift from a dear friend in France. The rest have been purchased from artisan potteries in France. louisanapurchase -- "looks more original than the original" -- wow -- thanks so much. We couldn't have hoped for more. javachik -- It sings to us too! Thanks!...See MoreKitchen reveals and DAT threads with missing photos and text
Comments (81)artemis78, I found your link in my "working" list of threads needing repair, and I submitted it on 2/24. You're right, it's still missing all the photos. :-( Modern California Bungalow Kitchen artemis Oct 2011 Thank you for posting, because I also rechecked the last group of threads I submitted around the same time...and found a few more that are still missing photos and/or text. I've sent a new list to Tamara, to re-send to the tech team folks. I'll keep an eye on the threads I resent today. I appreciate the heads up!...See MoreHelp with backsplash .. Please?!
Comments (26)Eam I think I am leaning toward the single colored tile, but I'll order samples and see how it looks in person. Romy I love how crackle looks in every kitchen I see it in. If I see JUST a picture of the tile I'm a little turned off by it, but in the big picture it really just works. My marble is Alabama White, which is similar to your Danby in terms of hardness and color. Most of the Slabs I saw were whiter than mine. I think the biggest difference is the AW has some more linear streaks (I prefer the light swirls, but at $75 a square foot I'm really happy with it). I shouldn't have any issues finding AW tiles, my countertop fabricators do all things tile and had AW in subways and mosaics. That's also another option. I have a feeling I will have a similar experience with the gray tile looking better. The pewter chicken butter dish I have looks amazing next to my counters. OB2B Ahhh. There you are with the mock ups!!! I surprisingly love how the gray looks, unfortunately I am one of those people negatively affected by gray. :(. I love how it looks, though, so I'm still going to consider it! Could I trouble you to do a white subway with beige grout? :D Mayflowers those are gorgeous, and I like the 4x4 tiles... What color do you think they would work in in my space? Maven thank you!! Herringbone is off the table for me as this will be a DIY installation (Lord help me), but I can't wait to see it in your kitchen! When is your expected completion date. Sorry it took so long to respond, we've been super busy lately!!...See MoreLisa
