You obviously love your rooms and that is the most important thing in the world. Your enthusiasm makes the rooms extra special! It is great when we find our own decorating voice...I'm still looking for mine, LOL. The couch is fabulous, btw!!!

I don't think it needs anything more. You are right at the edge of cool-retro. Anything more will unbalance it into a weird grandma space. Good work!

I think you could use a BIG helping of print in the room, starting with something for the windows. Something pop-art, that has all of your colors in it, like this. Maybe a simple padded cornice for above the windows, and then some groovy sheers with texture under it over the blinds. Maybe orange burlap?

And while I'm loving the gold, the green is a bit too minty for "retro" and too cool as well. I'd slipcover that minty green chair with another big print statement and take the walls on over to the true avocado color range, which is much yellower.

And of course, you need a mod light above the dining table. But it too, is a little "safe" if you really want to go retro. More color and pattern would not be amiss here for any future choices.

Hi there Holly, i really like the pansy fabric, where is it from, also, i do love the green avocado, i might just have to re paint the room again! The Chinese Jade did draw my eye and while i do like it, i wished it was a little more green than the mintish color! the dining light is on a lutron dimmer, but i like that it is 500 watts, i need that light, but i can use a different fixture, it was installed way before i painted the walls lol!

The rooms look great - IMHO I would not use the halloween and Christmas decorations at the same time. I know you are probably wanting a pop of orange to go w/your couch, maybe a vase, small framed print or candle sticks. Your other items seem to go together very well.

Lol I'm glad you noticed. I love christmas and halloween and I like them as conversation pieces. But I might replace them with some other colored vases I have. ;0)

I like your space, but your window treatments need more character. I am not fond of the "swag" above the awesome orange sofa.

If you are looking for blinds, maybe try JCP for their basswood blinds. Some of their blinds are very long. They are easy to shorten.

I guess I noticed it because one Thanksgiving at my home - my quite young newphew noticed something amiss on my beautiful dining room table..he said Aunt J - please pick a holiday ! OMG - because I only have a few sets of salt & pepper shakers I had my turkey ones on the table and my santa's on the other end...I also have very pretty bunny accessories and I think I had a bunny dish w/butter or something on it....after he told me to pick a holiday - I have not put 2 different holidays out at that same time! LOL
Same newphew told me - to pick a hair color, any color, just pick a color !! LOL....I had highlites and I guess he thought they were too much....or was just pullin my leg..he probably watched too much Seinfeld !

We have twin 70" windows that we had a bear finding coverings for. I really wanted lined bamboo shades, but - heavy. The 70" window was actually 3 separately opening/sliding windows within one frame. We ended up ordering extra wide slat horizontal blinds, 3 on a single headrail. LOVE them. I was afraid they'd look choppy but they don't.

It's a good space that seems to really reflect your personal style & personality. That alone can be hard to accomplish, so great job! :)

The only things that really stand out to me are the swag (I just personally don't like swags, but I think that one in particular sort of detracts from the rest of the room), the use of halloween & xmas decorations simultaneously, and the painting/print behind the right table.

Lol the print behind the right table is actually a throw pillow to my other lazy boy side chair. I also chose that fabric and I love how it looks on the chair. Also this window is 73 inches long. I wished my granny was still alive. She did amazing sewing. She also did the Vegas trip once a year to sell her and her sisters crafts at the shows. Wishes I would have got some of her sewing gene. But my hands are not steady as hers! I want to make something for the window. But I am lost. I do love the pansy print. Also like anything retro looking. Maybe someone can make me something and I can pay ya. I looked into a furniture design store here but they are so expensive and also they charge to come out. Things I've seen in the stores. Target. Jcp. Sears. Don't move me. I like something that's custom. That's really only seen in mi casa! I swear everything I like or own has been discontinued The sofa fabric was discontinued and also the fabric of the chairs pillow behind the table, only a met 2 months after delivery of my custom made lazy boy pieces. Guess that just means I like what others don't or aren't popular! Lol at me

I think it's warm, inviting, and fun! I like the green you chose for the walls. I do think some different window coverings might be better.

I love the orange sofa, but I'm not crazy about the window treatments.

I think you've done a wonderful job! Your rooms are loaded with energy and personality.

I think your windows would look great with full length panels hung out to the side of your windows in a bold black and white stripe. They could be vertical or horizontal. I don't think you need a lot of a big print, but some pillows in something like a great Marimekko or another bold graphic that appeals to you would be good.

It's very simple to make rod-pocket curtain panels. I'd stick with good-quality cotton, and use slender black rods with some sort of wonderful finials (I imagine something like Mardi Gras masks or branches of leaves).

Thank you brown I really like your ideas. I do like the idea of a black and white stripe panels. Where would I find them. And are there rods long enough. 73+ inches. Also what would I put in between the panels on the rod. Because I think they would look to separated? To far apart. Something simple in between. Not like a valance or swag. Something..... I'm looking to redo this window ASAP. I need new blinds to. The drapes don't have to close. Ideas woo hoo!!!!!

Here you go, make your own drapes with no sewing. You can even make them with sheets or shower curtains. All you need is fabric to make panels, cut off the excess and follow the directions below. I also think inexpensive bamboo type blinds would work well, you can find them at Walmart for not much money.

Wow, I think it is so unique. I like it a lot. I am however a little overwhelmed with the twos and threes. For example the three candles on the coffee table, then three trees on the end table. I think they detract from each other. Maybe you could replace a threesome with ONE item?
Then there are two lamps, which each have two shades, next to two owls, two pumpkins, two big wall decorations on either side of the window, and two little wall decorations towards the left. And your dining table has two sets of two. That's a lot of twos!
You've got quite a style, but I'd like to see less sets of the same items.

I know. I like to have matching pieces. I guess because I don't want the little space to look too busy with lots of different items ya know. I love owls btw. I found some neat drapes at pier 1. But what will I hang between the windows so that the drapes don't look so spaced apart?

I have very large windows and have hung drapery just to frame the window. Used a decorative rod (make sure you get one long enough) which has a middle support. I don't think it will look odd. Do you really need to keep the mini blinds for privacy? I think that they along with not enough material on either end, may be giving the long feeling between the drapes. ` Being white, long thin slats, and drapes so much darker? I think if you want blinds for that window, it may be better to go with a bigger slat blind. JCP often run sales on all of their window treatments. Perhaps you could use 3 sets, I think there are 3 windows comprised into that larger window over the sofa?

Mixing holiday decs - not a fan, but if it makes you happy, I think you should do it seeing as it is your home.

Also, do think your green is too minty (could be my monitor?). If you want retro, the avacado color posted is a great option. While I hate to paint, it is said it is the easiest thing to change (next to your mind, lol).

I like your DR, but I would choose one of either the mad hatter mirror or the metal piece. Seems like they are competing and neither are winning when hung together.

Oh, and can you send me the green glass piece on your coffee table, lol. Love it.

The color is a little minty. Now before I re did the room I didn't know I was going in the retro direction. Every piece is actually new to the space. I did paint the living room a tan or nude color and I hated it. All I kept thinking was of how much it looked like my grandmothers liquid make up. Lol. And for the green glass dish I actually picked that up at a antique store. How antique or new it is I don't know, the dish isn't marked. But I do have lots of pieces I picked up at the antique store. Most of them all different colored glass dishes�

Not a huge fan of the minty wall color and agree that maybe it should be a but more green and less blue. and the swag curtain just doesn't do the room justice. I LOVE your sofa and love the decor.

Hi all. I am looking for new pillar candles for the three holders on the table. Now should they all match or can I mix and match. I really love the peacock pillar candles from pier one and want them. But I'm afraid that three of them would be too much. But then I'm nervous to mix the peacock candle with others. Thoughts�

Are you looking at the yellow Peacock pillars? They are really bright, and might be overwhelming using 3. Where did you intend to display them?

I really like the green dish. It caught my eye at the antique mall. The tag didn't say what it was or era. It was like 45 dollars. Its not marked. Its a candy dish correct? I have little hands in the house so I don't put candy in it because its gone within the hour. Lol. To the candles, the blue pillar candles on pier1 dot com. They have a peacock feather on either side of the candle. I thought the added color and the feather would just be like a pop of color to the eye. They would go into the metal andle holders on the coffee table. But I wasn't sure if three of the same candle would be too much. But then I'm lost as to mix and match candles so close together?

Oh, I do like the blue peacock pillars! Not sure how they will work with the sticks. I don't have the greatest monitor, but the candle sticks look like they have either lights or crystals, but perhaps you added them? Any event, the blue would be a nice counter to your sofa color. I guess it would depend on what the sticks actually look like up close. Also, you might want to remove the pumpkin or the tree accessories so as to not overwhelm the eye. The peacock pillars would be perfect, but I think they would/should be the start of the show. I try in my own home to not have too many things competing for attention. If it were my room, I would lose the pumpkins in favor of the trees since the trees and your fab green glass dish are the same color. Add in the blue, but maybe put the pumpkins away till fall?

Yes I get what you mean! I love the candles although have not seen them in person. Will be going to pier 1 tomorrow to see. The candle holders have green and clear glass balls on tips of the holders, these were on them when I bought them. I think the green in the peacock candle would match the green balls and also putting away the pumpkins would help the space. The rfeason I have the jack o lantern pumpkin out is because I've had it since I was a baby and just can't seem to part with it.
