Seems like a lot of money for something that is not real wood,and the lifts are plastic.Also make sure when looking that your machine will fit the openings.JMO

I think think that's a really good price. I bought one a few years back that wasn't quite as big, and did not have the hydraulic lift for around $450. I've been very happy with it. When I bought mine, I gave them the model of machine I'd be using in it and the plastic opening was made to fit. Not knowing anyone who could make me a custom built one, this was the way to go.
Also, it's a lot nicer than my old set up, where I had my machine sitting on top of my old Singer cabinet--a lot easier on my back.

Hi spider You might be under pricing your work if it is good work. What you should do is do some leg work first. Find out what the retail cost is for what you are making. Then figure out your cost to make them and then figure in your labour. The fixed cost is your materials and you can't fudge that but you can fudge your labour either up or down. Price the fabrics you will use. Try to get a wide range of fabrics around the same price, so you can offer 1 price. If a customer wants a certain fabric and it's more expensive then adjust your price. It's easy to do if you already have a fixed price for fabric. If you want an idea--My sister made a mouse cover for her upright vacuum and could have sold it many times. Maybe you could post a photo--here's how To post a photo-- Get a photobucket account--it's free. Upload your photo. Under the picture you'll see a bunch of URL formats for the picture. Click on the one that says HTML. It should automatically copy. Go to the thread here and right click and choose paste. It will show up as writing but when you submit it will be a picture.

hi nosoccermom... so i'm coming up to speed late on your dining room table hunt, but we just moved to the dallas area and there are a couple people who have been advertising their custom rustic style tables they make, so it made me wonder if you had anyone with similar skills in your area on craigslist, and sure enough there is! i'm not sure if you're looking on CL because of a budget, or if you like the earth-friendly nature of reusing, or if you just like the look of older furniture or what... and these guys might be more than you want to spend, but check out the listing below. i think the farm style table is $600 but it includes the benches so if you've got chairs you could surely get it down a bit more. they're in VA but advertise on the DC board and deliver within 70 miles or orange, va. not sure where you are in the DC area - if you're north or east of the city it might be too far. anyway, wanted to share. personally i'd drive 2 hours for a good deal on brand new item i've been hunting for, but that's just me! haha Here is a link that might be useful: custom furniture

Toupee tape is fabulous for everything! Much better than safety pins. It is a strong, double-sided tape. All of the women in my family carry a few strips in their purses. If you have a blouse that is gaping in front between the buttons, stick a little toupee tape in the placket where you would ordinarily pin it. You hem falls out, toupee tape (doesn’t show like staples! HA!). Your v-neck blouse is showing too much cleavage, toupee tape it to your chest. I was meeting with someone once and he had lost his cuff button. He could not pay attention to what I was saying for fiddling with that stinking cuff. I got out my toupee tape, taped his cuff together and got his attention for the rest of the meeting! There are better sewing machine tables. Stay away from the ones that have plastic parts.sewing machine tables

My daughters bought me one from Joann Fabrics for Christmas last year. It is actually a quilters table. I really like it. It was on sale for $99.00 plus free shipping at the time. It has a grid top and an extra extention that you cann fold out. Plus it has a table that you can Flip up for a nice cutting table. On the one side it has a draw and a door with 2 shelves. It can be closed up like a cabinet to hide all away. I really like it...

The one from Joanns that I have is item # 1848746. It is called Sew Essential Quilter's Design Table. It is pictured on their website. They run it on sale often.

One thing I would say about rather lightweight sewing tables is that when you sew at fast speeds or do zigzagging the tables tend to vibrate badly. Just saying.......
