I think it's a nice looking table. Unusual design. The only issue is that the apron (right word?) comes down low -- or maybe the chairs are extra high? -- but if you look, it appears that a medium- to large-sized person may not be able to pull the chair up to the table because there appears to be just a few inches between table and chair seat. I know you're not using those chairs, but just something you might want to look at no matter what chair you use.

I think that you'd do best to contact the seller first to ask her about the size, unextended and extended, the height and width.

The seller should know whether it's veneer, and if he/she doesn't, you should go see it to be sure. Perhaps you can send one of the photos to the store where it was purchased and ask if they know about it.

It's very different from the rustic farmhouse tables you were showing us earlier. When I see something that I am interested in on CL, I immediately contact the seller with all of my questions, especially if the item is quite a distance away.

Is this far from where you live? If you get 'good' answer to your questions, and it's an easy drive, I'd put one of your chairs in the car and go see it with the chair. See if the apron allows you enough room to sit with your chair style, and if there are blemishes on the table that don't show up in the ad photos. It's funny how some things look much better in the CL pics than in person, and others look much better when you actually see them up close.

Gorgeous table. I'm guessing cherry? I recently purchased a vintage Baker cherry table with a similar grain. Mine is solid, so this one may be as well. I think it would look great with slipcovered Parsons chairs. I think you'll have to see it in person to get a sense of the finish condition. The style could lean casual or more formal, so it would give you lots of flexibility over the years. If it's solid, I wouldn't hesitate to use it with kids.

The table is in storage, so they couldn't even give me the dimensions. However, it sounds like it would fit size-wise just looking at it. Thanks for pointing out the low apron, which is definitely an issue with my tall DH.

I asked about the veneer etc. and am waiting for responses.

Is the apron on the long side lighter or is that just the photo? It looks better in the CL photos, but in the photo you posted here, it looks very bulky with the top and apron.

From the picture you posted it does not look like the chairs go with the table. I guess it doesn't matter if you only want the table. I think the chairs are very nice and I also like the table but not together.

The frame of the table my not be veneer but the middle may be veneer. It there some reason you don't want veneer?

It's veneer. The reason I don't want veneer is that I want a table that can get some abuse, or better yet, where dents and knicks are part of the patina.
The store where it was bought is out of business now but apparently was quite high end and sold 'antiques.'

I feel for you and hope you find the table that's meant to be yours soon. I searched for months for mine, and I was so relieved that I finally found one that works well enough for us......it feels so good to not be constantly checking cl anymore!

At this point, I just want to be done with it it. I was even thinking if I could get an IKEA table and somehow "age" it. AT least the size and extension would work. Or I may still buy the one in Kentucky (posted in another thread) sight unseen.
I know that I don't want anything with those fake rounded edges.

I really hope you find it soon! I was close to getting an ikea table, but I lucked out and found a double pedestal one that goes from 64-100" for $125. The wood is questionable and the finish isn't perfect, but I too just wanted to be done. I did end up getting ikea chairs.....I get to a point where I just need to get it already and stop waiting for someone else to unload my perfect chair on cl!

hi nosoccermom... so i'm coming up to speed late on your dining room table hunt, but we just moved to the dallas area and there are a couple people who have been advertising their custom rustic style tables they make, so it made me wonder if you had anyone with similar skills in your area on craigslist, and sure enough there is!

i'm not sure if you're looking on CL because of a budget, or if you like the earth-friendly nature of reusing, or if you just like the look of older furniture or what... and these guys might be more than you want to spend, but check out the listing below. i think the farm style table is $600 but it includes the benches so if you've got chairs you could surely get it down a bit more. they're in VA but advertise on the DC board and deliver within 70 miles or orange, va. not sure where you are in the DC area - if you're north or east of the city it might be too far. anyway, wanted to share. personally i'd drive 2 hours for a good deal on brand new item i've been hunting for, but that's just me! haha

I'm looking mainly at CL because I like the idea of an "antique" and of reusing materials, and because the proper antique stores are outrageously expensive.

I'm a little hesitant to post as I don't know the exact price you are looking at spending. But, I see you are in my area and I shop quite a bit in Occoquan and I know this store has farm style dining tables (reclaimed pine). We bought a beautiful coffee table for my brother there a few years back. Nice wife/husband run shop.
