If you've got the strong backs and a real desire, this would probably be a good deal. I would of course, offer $1200 or something, but it looks nice.

From your photo...........I don't like the idea of a gazebo or other really permanent structure there. I think you have a nice backyard and a pretty patio. My own limited yard view is lovely to me, and I hate fussying it up with a structure.

Red: Thank for the feedback. I think I really need to see it photoshopped in to decide if I like it or would prefer to see my plants, though I would still see the rest of the raised beds as it runs along the entire back fence area. Plus sitting in the gazebo would be very pleasant surrounded by plants. I guess it would add more shade to my plant area, though there is quite a bit already and most plants I'm planting there need to be shade tolerant.

The roof I think would be the real hassle as he said it needs to be moved in one piece. Our side yard clearance is only 4' (we pushed out in our remodel). Think I could even get it in?

I think a 10' diameter will be a bit cramped with a table that seats six. You won't be able to scoot the chairs back from the table and get around them. The gazebo has two doorways so the people near those will be ok but the two people in the middle of each side will have trouble getting in and out.

Oh boy - it's lovely, but the mere thought of disassembling and transporting it would put me completely off of it. And to be honest I think it might be a bit "much" in the spot you're wanting it for, and would detract from your gorgeous landscaping. I think a pretty round umbrella table and chairs would work much better in your space. (As for the space where they show it -- I'm assuming it wasn't just moved there for the pic, but they put it there on purpose? Hmmmm ...)

DH and others have reminded me why we dismissed it last year--crowding the seating space. When we designed the retaining wall in back it was set so that we could have overflow seating along the ledge. The gazebo totally blocks it. We then had considered putting in a pergola, but there was no ideal spot for that either so scraped the whole idea. DH was interested in one of the retractable awnings, but I thought it would look tacky so all we have now is the umbrella and the birch trees to the west which provide shade in the late afternoon/early evening.

We do need more shade in this backyard at certain times of day. Just not sure what the best solution is yet. Perhaps in July I'll be thinking differently. :)

I really like the dining area of your patio. Nice accent with the brick.

Gazebo's can look really nice and the roofline would obscure nearby houses. My concern about the one you linked is how large of a table it would accommodate. How many people might you entertain? A 48" table would probably be maximum and that would seat 6 comfortably, 8 tops. But, the railing encloses so it might be difficult to move about. Perhaps it can be removed. As to blocking a view of the lawn, it looks like you would see the planting beds, just a portion of the retaining wall would be blocked.

How would you anchor the gazebo? Not something you want a strong wind to tip and the subject one does not have a cupola allowing air to excape.

You have a round shaped space so a 6 or 8 sided structure would look nice. Handy? I would build an 8-sided to totally roof the dining area with footings set into the earth outside the patio and constructed with open sides so chairs can be pushed fully away. Just my thoughts. Enjoy the patio whatever your decision.

I hope you find room for it, that gazebo is just gorgeous!

So the Amish are now handcrafting vinyl gazebos? The fact that it is vinyl would be a showstopper for me.

My feelings are if you get a gazabo you should get a 8 sided one as large as your circle, which is beautiful btw. I think a much better fit for that area is a nice large round table with a large umbrella.

I think the gazebo is too bulky for your space, and I think it would be difficult to move, assuming you could get it home in one piece. How would you transport it, if the roof has to be left in one piece?

A warning about the gazebos from Target: we bought one a few years ago and it fell apart within months. The metal structure bent in the wind, and the fabric shredded at the seams. It was a waste of nearly $200, and it was a real bugger to assemble. Of course, YMMV depending on which one you buy. I thought it was "ironic" that the instructions for that gazebo said that it was "not to be used outdoors." I swear! Like I'm supposed to put it in my dining room. !

Anyway, have you thought about a shade sail? That's what I originally wanted for our sunny deck, but DH didn't want anything fastened to our house (we have a custom log home that can't be easily repaired, if one of the logs gets damaged). I'm posting a link to one place that sells shade sails. There are many others. I think Costco may still have them online, too.

I like a gazebo and that one might be a good deal. But,I don't think the traditional gazebo fits in with your southwest style tile roof,stucco walls and stonescaping, which is to die for btw. How about a seating group or a round table with a huge market umbrella in the brick circle and move your picnic table over to the wider area of the patio, I assume it continues a bit. What a great area to work with! Sue

I absolutely love your beautiful patio. I so wish I had seen it for inspiration before I settled on my sad drab concrete slab. :)

However, I do not like the gazebo at all. No way would I cover up the patio with it. I think that gazebo needs an entirely different setting and your patio needs something that plays up the style of your home and gardens. Guess I'm basically saying ditto to everything cooperbailey already said.

Have you considered a pergola? That would be more open and still leave your low seating wall.

I don't think you'd like that gazebo, frankly. 10' is NOT big when you get in it. And I don't think you'd get a table and six chairs in there.

I'd pass on this one.

First.........that thing would be a b#@&h to move and by the time you paid someone to move it (and you'd need more than a pickup truck) you could invest in a really nice patio table and chairs, w/umbrella.

If you're needing more shade consider planting a tree to the left of the patio, but those birches will give you a good bit of shade in a few years.........just keep giving them lots of water. I assume you're aware that their root system will eventually take over the flower bed .

OK, we are going to pass on the gazebo and stick with the original plan of just the patio dining set and market umbrella (which I already bought from Costco). I just need to find a patio table in a larger sized circle that can accomodate 6 chairs--or even 8. Why it it they are available for the interior and not the exterior?

We do have other space for the picnic table there now--either closer to the house or on the opposite end of the lot. Our shade issue is really the windows that are located on the west side and get the setting sun. We tried putting a pergola there, but took out the posts as we felt it blocked the view too much. Perhaps DH is right and we should just get a retractable awing for that side of the house. Will post some additional pics tomorrow in separate thread to see if some other ideas present themselves. This is one of the awkward parts of our home remodel that it almost forms a small U now with two sliding doors into the patio and two steps to contend with and limited locations to put posts (which now won't go in since the flagstone has been laid).

A store that specializes in patio furniture will be able to get any size table you need.

DH's idea may be pretty good! I don't think I'd worry about how the awning would look since it'll be on the back part of the house and you really won't be viewing it from a point beyond the house.
The important issue is, does it give you the shade you're needing and allow you to enjoy the outdoors and your home more?

Perhaps I should not have started the other thread, but really need to get a more cohesive overall plan and want lots of input so I don't make any expensive mistakes! I already need to get rid of a bunch of lumber for the half started pergola.... Arrrgh!
