What do you think of this CL chair?

I'm thinking of this chair and ottoman for the corner of my living room. (For those that have been helping me with the living room in another thread I'm thinking of it backed against one of the columns and in front of the under the stairs thing that will soon be closed in.)

Susan I think I can pretty safely say that I have the same chair and ottoman - different fabric but otherwise the same. Mine are Hancock & Moore, they are very comfortable *for me*, DH not so much although once in a blue moon he will sit in one. I will tell you they are VERY large scale which has been problematic in my space, may not be a problem in yours. Price is good, and the upholstery condition looks ok from the pic.

I haven't seen your other thread but don't see how you could go wrong with this chair and ottoman. They look to be in great shape and the price is very, very reasonable! Where I live, seller's on CL would be asking triple that amount, easily!

Aunt Jen, I LOVE the rattan shown in your link. I definitely like the more mid-century looking stuff and have been hoping for that for a while. But I've been checking CL for what seems like ages and I can't seem to find a set with cushions that isn't $$$. Carrie, I actually did think about painting it but this is furniture that we will be sitting on in (dry) swimsuits and shorts, so I didn't think the painted fabric would feel very nice next to our skin. It never occurred to me to dye cushions. Yours look fabulous! What a terrific idea. I will DEFINITELY keep that in mind for the next great buy. Dying won't work with this stuff because the cushions are attached. BTW, Carrie, your wicker really is beautiful. And sunroom furniture IS shockingly expensive. What is up with that? I have to tell you guys it was pretty funny when I went to see the furniture. The seller just bought this house and had tons of workers there - painters, landscapers, carpenters. As I was staring at the couch he was walking around with the decorator getting her opinion on what needed to be done. I was dying to jump into their conversation. I knew I didn't want the furniture but I stood there for a few minutes just to eavesdrop! From what I could figure out, the decorator was giving him some good advice. I approve - LOL! Nicole

What do you think of this gazebo for sale on CL (PS help)?

I think the gazebo is too bulky for your space, and I think it would be difficult to move, assuming you could get it home in one piece. How would you transport it, if the roof has to be left in one piece? A warning about the gazebos from Target: we bought one a few years ago and it fell apart within months. The metal structure bent in the wind, and the fabric shredded at the seams. It was a waste of nearly $200, and it was a real bugger to assemble. Of course, YMMV depending on which one you buy. I thought it was "ironic" that the instructions for that gazebo said that it was "not to be used outdoors." I swear! Like I'm supposed to put it in my dining room. ! Anyway, have you thought about a shade sail? That's what I originally wanted for our sunny deck, but DH didn't want anything fastened to our house (we have a custom log home that can't be easily repaired, if one of the logs gets damaged). I'm not sure if any of these appeal to you but we bought our table here about 7 years ago. I love it. Ours is 6' with painted black base. It has held up extremely well to my family of six, with four kids eating all their meals here, as well as using it for homework, arts and crafts, etc. We have six chairs but only use four, with two one one side, one on either end, and a bench on the other side. However, when necessary, we can easily add a third chair to the one side and seat three on the opposite bench. Eventually I will replace the bench and only have chairs. Not sure how far you are from Annapolis, but it would make a lovely day trip. The shop is right on the main street into town, with loads of other shops and restaurants in walking distance so if you have time, it would be a nice outing for the day. Maine Cottage is a few blocks away, and though pricey, has some really nice furniture as well. Here is a link that might be useful: Annapolis Furniture Company

Deb, I've seen some great things on Dayton Springfield, but that is a bit far for me. Columbus is my DH's sales territory, so if I want anything, he could pick it up, if I'm really nice to him....just kidding. My MIL is also in columbus, so she could go and look at an item for me until I can get it. I've also seen stuff on Columbus that I think that people have bought at the JC penney outlet and they are re-selling it....I check out that outlet when ever I'm down there....sometimes its good, sometimes it's not.

The CL post doesn't say anything about whether the furniture is from a non-smoking house. That's the first question I would ask them. If it smelled like smoke, they could give it away and I wouldn't want it!

But if it's in good condition and you like the set, you can hardly go wrong for that price.

dlm2000 - oh your room is so lovely! Very warm and welcoming. Good to remember on the large scale. Thanks for that. I'd love to have one that was comfy for me. Right now most of the furniture in this house is comfy for DH but not for me.

chicagoans - thanks. We can tell as soon as we walk in if there's smoke and we wouldn't take it if it did.

For $50 you can afford to have any smoke smell professionally removed!

Geez, you can spend that on dinner. Those chairs are quite nice and look in good shape. I would to get them if I wanted them.

It's bound to be a better bargain than the chair I found last week on CL. Definitely take a whiff of the chair before buying. Mine smelled like fried food, but did not notice until I got it in the car. Gave the chair to my son for his apartment and he loves it!

Well, silly me. I was vacuuming today and turned over one of the pieces and they are SAM Moore, not Hancock & Moore! Not that it matters....... but in case you want to ask the seller ;-)
