It's like crazy on CL today-- a series of junk for the last 6 months and now a whole bunch of nice stuff. Some I can't use.. and some is a little more than I want to spend.. but this is the first that I have been interested in more than 1-2 ads.

I haven't heard back from the seller yet. Also waiting to hear back from this one.. she confirmed that it is the martha stewart island they sell at Kmart. I offered her 125 via paypal sight unseen.. and now she's not responding. I guess I may have upset her. heh.

funky, Just ask the seller for some good close-ups of the front area beside the seat and the arms...It may be just the pics, but does it look worn there? It seems lighter than the rest of the chair, but what a beautiful chair.

I'd want to see it in person before committing, there do appear to be creases in the right picture on the cushion that make the claim of never used, look like a prom dress returned as "never worn" the day After the prom. That doesn't mean that it isn't a great chair, it's just that if one item is a "little used", what else is there? But definitely get in line first, for all that tufting the price is probably worth it.

I am going to see it. No, I haven't committed to it.

I did notice that it looks used also-- but some leathers just do and a flash could emphasize the creases. Regardless, even if it has been used a year, it will be a steal if it is comfy. None of the chairs I have been looking at of similar size are under 1500.

The seller of the kitchen island has accepted my 125. What do you think? It sells for 240 or so. My kitchen is wayyyyyy too small for a real island. I have seen this piece and it is very sturdy and much better made than the breakfast bar sets you see all over the place. Does it look cheap? I am planning to paint it turquoise so it won't be stark white.

I have seen the table in person before-- I was considering it for a painting table (art painting vs wall painting) but the top was really too nice to fill up with brush strokes. It IS solid and my only issue with it is how white it is. My kitchen has cream cupboards and wainscoating.

Anyhow, I bought the island last night. I'll pick it up on sunday.

Hoping to get out to see the chair in a few hours.. unfortunately work is pressing on me today so we'll see if I can get out.

Get it! it has a patina not scratched up or worn out.

OK.. this is where my head is now.. It's a beautiful chair but leaning away from getting it because:
- it's more leather and brown to my already heavy on wood/leather room. The house is small so I am finding too much leather and wood to be a little "heavy" and imposing.

- The color is similar but much more golden than the sofa leather which I carefully chose the color of. It's not the same grade or quality either.

- it has a bit of a "man's club" feel to me.. and for the foreseeable future, this is a chick house.

- while I love tufting, it just sucks in dog hair (which I have far too much of

- I think I really have my heart set on a light, interesting fabric chair.

Am I making a big mistake if I walk away? I am in the midst of a very bad work day so I don't know that I am being clear headed about this.

one more note: due to work issues, it is very unlikely that I am going to be able to leave and drive the hour to the location before 5pm tonight (she can show it tomorrow morning)

anyone else want to weigh in on the closeups or the chair in general? Am I making a big mistake if I don't run out there tomorrow?

It's a beautiful chair, but after reading your concerns I do agree with your hesitation. I think it would probably be too much competing leather. I see it working great with rich chenille or velvet--particularly a piece some subtle femininity. You are right, it is a "masculine" piece that needs something soft and curvy to balance it.

I know how you feel about wanting to just get it though. But it's not a good deal, no matter how low the price, if you can't really use it in your space.

If you're really wanting a fabric chair, then this won't work no matter how cheap it is.

I don't know why I am being so wishy washy. I know what I like and what will work for meeeeee. I guess it was the 1500 difference between the two chairs. I felt like I was being irresponsible by not getting the CL bargain.

Of course, I know how it would go. I would buy the leather-- and then still order the WH chair and then I wouldn't have saved anything.

Why is it that in my area all the CL offerings look like the "genuine suade" chair?

For what it is worth, my aunt has a beautifully decorated house. Her very small casual seating area is decorated with a variety of different leather pieces in different shades of brown. I know it sounds awful, but it is wonderful. It looks very much like a comfortable gentleman's club (think English club, not the sort with poles and dancers!)

Is it just the photograph or is the front left leg bent backwards? Look at the first photo in "a few more pictures." Something about the legs looks a little off but it could just be a photographic thing.

I agree with a couple others about treading carefully here, something about this doesn't seem to be what it says it is. I've bought a lot of things that I didn't need simply because they were such a good deal, then had to re-consign them or give them away, and always lost money. It's not a deal if you don't just love it and/or need it. You'll know what to do.

This is indicative of the cr*p that's usually found on Chicago's craigslist.

How's this leather chair in comparison? It's even way out in the boonies. They've got pigs out there, I think.

.. and a 1000 no less! We usually have crap here too-- overpriced crap. I have been having some good luck though. I can't use a majority of the nice stuff I've seen but I've bought two things in the last week-- and have 4 more as possibilities.

I am looking at the chair and the console on Tuesday (she isn't showing it again until then). I'll post if I get it. Thanks everyone!
