Did they say why they're selling? I know others have had problems with quality issues with newer Ethan Allen furniture, and I've never owned Ethan Allen, so can't speak to that.

I like the fabric and style of this one, but wonder how the color will work will your current chair. It looks to be an usual taupey color. I don't know that I'd go above $550 or $600 for a used sofa, unless it was exceptional.

BTW, I was going to mention on the TV wall thread, but I'll tell you here. I've always loved your vintage cabinet under your TV. It was your parents', right? Perfect.

Dee, thanks for responding. I've got the same concern about the color but thought it might be the camera flash or the fact that it's photographed against the mint green wall. If it's a pinkish taupe IRL I know it won't work. I wasn't aware of Ethan Allen issues recently; so I appreciate the info.

Thanks for your nice comment about my mom's old buffet. She still can't wrap her head around the fact that what used to store wedgwood and waterford now holds Video and TV components, but, welcome to life in the 21st century!

I like the sofa, but I wouldn't offer more than $400 for it.

I had an appointment to see it this afternoon but the owner cancelled; will look Monday. She says it's definitely an olive-y beige, which would work for me. Honestly it's all about comfort, and I love the tight back of this one. I like the overall look of my current sofa, but it is too shallow for lounging, etc., and that's what we use this sofa for the most. So we'll see....appreciate thoughts on the price since I've never bought a couch on CL before.

You have a lovely room! Just wanted to share that we had a similar sofa in the past (style, not brand), and on ours, the back cushion seemed to curve toward the back a bit. Not sure if I'm describing that well, but when we sat on it, it was difficult to relax and sink back into the sofa - as if our shoulders could never sink far enough back because of the way the sofa back curved backwards. Perhaps this sofa isn't made that way, but it looks very similar. Can't wait to hear what you think of it.

Personally, I like the sofa you have now. However, that's not what you wanted to hear. Offer them much less than what they are asking, like $325.00. That sofa will not sell easily for the price they are asking.

How much did the sofa cost new? An Ethan Allen sofa could be close to 2K, maybe more. If it's in perfect condition and comfortable it might be worth close to what they are asking.

I like the way your room looks. I understand that you want a more comfortable sofa. You can fine a sofa that will look better in your room.

i can't imagine that you'll find as nice and as new a sofa on cl again, so if it is really comfortable, i'd def get it...i would offer less, but probably wouldn't offer less than 450 to start--unless there is a blemish/damage to it--will they give you the paperwork that shows what they paid??

I appreciate all the feedback, and yes, sometimes I do need to hear that what I have is better; it's only about comfort and our current sofa has a straight back and not much depth, so it keeps you sitting upright. I thought that's what I wanted due to the relatively narrow space we had to work with. In hindsight, the sofa is used to watch TV, not really for conversation; so having one with some more depth and the ability to lean back in it is what I'd rather have. I also wish we'd gone with the three cushion style; we do seat three people there fairly often and I think it would be more comfortable.

The seller may be playing games with me; in setting up the appt. for Monday she made a point of saying that she had someone else coming to look but wanted me to have first dibs since I was the first to contact. So not sure this one is going to fly; especially if I make a lower offer. Even if I love it, I don't think I'll pay more than $500. With the hassle factor of arranging delivery, etc, that's going to be my limit. So we'll see.

The best rule of thumb I've heard for CL pricing is 25% of price paid. It seems to work in this case too, 25% of $1800 is $450. If it is in pristine condition, it might be worth a tad more; if it is in compromised condition, a tad less....
