Need help with coffee table shape/size

I have a new large sectional that has two ottomans. There is no room to place the ottomans anywhere but in front of the sofa. I need some help from all you talented people on what to do for a coffee table. Right now, I am using my grandkids toybox...but they want it back!

Does anyone have a suggestion? I am artistically challenged and could use some creative help. Thank you.

How about two smallish round tables or round leather ottomans (ottomen?) instead of one larger rectangle? A round shape is easier to navigate around for the people sitting in the corners. You have the space and they're pretty easy to find. Look on Overstock or at Marshall's, etc.

That sectional certainly looks comfortable, and what a beautiful rug. Your colors are lovely -- I'm not so sure that you're artistically challenged!

I think that two lightweight, matching tables would work best there. Lightweight, so that you can keep them together or separate them to maneuver around more easily, as you please. You'll also be able to move them where needed, too, when company arrives. I'd look for something dark, as opposed to light color. BTW, the new sectional looks great and very comfy!

Update, and David, thanks so much for your reply. I wanted to get a rectangular table, but I thought that would limit the amount of surface space since I only had 60" to place the table. The depth of the area is 28" from the seat to the end of the chaise. You kind of need 12-15" on either side of a table to comfortably get around I would think. There were no tables I could find (that I liked) that narrow to make the rectangle, so I went with the Leister Shaker Cherry Square table. I got it in the heritage stain for the top and the Capri Cream for the bottom so it would go more with the console table our LCD television sits on. I think it will go marvelously well with the other cherry stained stuff we have nearby. I went to a store called Nastasi's in Oaklyn NJ. It was a WONDERFUL experience!!! They are a mom-and-pop store that will really work with you. They had a few Leister cabinets and tables on the floor so I could really see what the quality was. I will shop at this store from now on! Great prices! Originally I was going to go with the Shaker Ash but wasn't too crazy about the stain colors on that wood. They sold me the Shaker Cherry for only $8 more, when the tables at their prices were $50 apart. Nastasi's has appliances as well and very high quality stuff for great prices. I highly recommend this place based on my limited experience. They worked hard to get this small sale and treated me as if I were spending $10,000 instead of $358 (price of that sweet shaker table!) Ok I'm convinced to a 60" round, hopefully with drop in leafs for extra seating. I spoke with the table maker today and he's on vaca until Saturday so we'll touch base early next week and finalize plan/start the actual build. After all the recommendations I'm thinking too that I'll only purchase 6 of the chairs and use my existing wooden ones for extras. We aren't big entertainers and would mostly have just another couple to host but this will provide a slightly more cost effective solution for when we do entertain more. @maggieq & @cyn427 @jjam - thanks for the chair info! Yikes about the experience with the Hudson chairs, esp for how pricey they are! I've heard such mixed reviews about the overall quality of RH, either wonderful or awful, but I've been coveting the Martine for so long that I'm cautiously willing to give them a try... And hope at worst I could have them brought to a re-upholsterer for future modification over buying fresh set at that time. Thanks again everyone, this has been Hugely helpful! :-)

Whats the size of your room? I typically like doing a bigger rug than a smaller rug so it helps frame in the furniture space of your living room. If you have enough room to pull out your rug slightly and have the front feet of your sectional touching, it would defiantly give that nice framed in look that I'm talking about. You want your rug far out enough to ware all parts of your living room furniture (not including your media console, if you have one in the space) touching the rug. See below for examples. Set it up and lay it out and let us know if it works out. Good luck!

I agree with jck910..about the rug but if you want your sofa in the same place, TV should go on the left side of the fireplace. If you have room for your sofa to face the back wall, then put your TV on the right side of the fireplace. I am not sure how much room you would have with the door where it is if you put the sofa facing the back wall. My son has a corner fireplace....difficult to arrange furniture around one. As for coffee table, depends on lamps/end tables and etc. Wait for those until you get your small sofa, TV entertainment stand and etc.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I think I'm going to have to do a little mockup and see what works best. I am just not visual.

The couch is definitely comfy, and a prettier color than the photo shows.

I don't have a coffee table at all - just one big ottoman and some little round tables that can be moved around as needed.

Your room is lovely. I agree with other posters that two small tables would probably work best. I will post a link to the table that I just bought, though, and love, in case you think it would work for you. I would never have chosen a black table in a contemporary style, but it was suggested by a stager who is helping me, and now that it is there I love it. It comes in brown, too, and is on sale.

I wouldn't do a coffee table at all. Instead, I would push those two ottomans together in the middle and use them. Then add a side table next to the arm end of the sofa, and maybe a sofa table behind (if there's room) to give your guests a place to set their drinks.

Love the idea of pushing the ottomans together and using those for your coffee table. I also love your rug! Where did you get it, if you don't mind me asking? I'm in need of some new rugs myself! thanks :)

I love all the unique ideas! Pushing the ottomans together won't work for me as one of them almost always has my husband's feet attached to it. I do occasionally use one as a table, using the black tray that is on the wicker toybox in the photo. When all the family gets together, the ottomans become extra seating.

The rug was from Pottery Barn. By the time I made up my mind about it, it was discontinued, so I got it new on Ebay. It takes me so long to make a decision that I ususally find the trend is over and the items I like no longer in stock!
