Oooooh! I'd get it and FIND a place if it doesn't work over the buffet, which I can't imagine except for reflection issues. A great size and the shape is wonderful!

Don't worry about mixing the metal finishes. It adds life to the area. You don't want them ALL to match.

is it going to look too much like a dresser??! i thought maybe the shape of it would help steer away from that.

Once you have it up and the accessories arranged, it will look like it was made for the entry. The CL picture doesn't look like a bedroom to me! :)

I don't understand his dresser hang-up because that is not at all what I think. It's going to be an elegant and sophisticated grouping that welcomes you and your guests. It's a preview of how your home will feel.

I think you are just going to have to ignore his possible objection. You are right about this and he will like it once it is all in place. Also, that mirror can be used in a lot of settings. I move things around all of the time just because I get in the mood for something different.

You are so much nicer than I am, to worry about what he will think :) I may ask my DH his opinion, but I'm really asking myself how much I like it! That is so bad.

alex - teehee. yes DH gets on his kicks. he was actually was laughing about it looking like a dresser. I know once it's done he'll be all proud of it.

He did complain when i bought the crystal chandy. Thought it was all cheesy and stuff. Once it was up he changed his tune. :)

think i'm going to head over tomorrow to look at it. hopefully it looks as nice in person.

What is the mirror made of? If it's resin, you might want to reconsider. Sometimes they just look cheap in person, and might not do your beautiful buffet justice.

i think this place is a second hand type store... considering the price it may be made of resin. i guess i could email them and find out.

Even if it's polyurethane it may not look it. I think most mirrors now a days are not wood. It is very pretty and has the scale you require and YOU like it. $89 is better than $119. You may be able to get more off the price once you get there.

That's a very nice mirror and the price is not too bad either. They key to working with mirrors is to have something pretty reflected in your mirror--either on the opposite wall of with some pretty colorful table top decor--such as flowers. Perhaps a ginger jar type lamp may look better than ones that are made of metal as you don't want the chandelier to look out of place. As for DH thinking it's a dresser, honestly it's not. If anything it screams dining room, not bedroom. Why don't you get him busy painting the walls or something so he can feel involved with the decorating process at the same time leaving the more creative aspects to you. My DH was also initially skeptical of some of my decorating decisions, but now it's 90% done you should've seen him last week when he had some collegues from work over telling them all how I did all the design (remodel) and decor myself, designed the backyard patio and planted most of the plants, showing it all off. It was really very sweet that he was proud how I'd made our home look.

I like the shape of the mirror, and if the finish is applied well you won't be able to tell it is polyurethane. Since it is a darker gold finish the light fixture looks just fine, although you might want to try some mini-black shades on the bulbs just for fun.

Point out to the seller that you can get a brand new mirror for $119 and offer him less.

i'm really not good at negotiating. i usually want the item and am not prepared to walk away from it if they don't drop the price.

as far as i could get a new one for $119 i'm sure his response would be it's $30 cheaper already. ohh i'm cringing thinking about it. just not good at it. What's a reasonable offer? Ha maybe if i tell him my b-day is tomorrow. . .

jerseygirl - I'm hoping it's not dinged up. It will probably stay there if so. I did have the tape measure out last night and it looks like it will be a good size. the height is actually half an inch taller than the height of the buffet.

val - i think if i put a larger picture on the opposite wall you'd still see the reflection in the mirror. you're suggesting an arrangement on the buffet? i had to look up what a ginger jar lamp was. saw some on lamps plus i liked.

kswl - never thought about mini black shades on the chandy. that's a thought. since i liked johnatemps lamp so much (with the shades) maybe that will fill that void. :) i guess i could change it out sometime. got it at a low price but it was a PAIN to put up. it's pretty new so i was trying to leave it for awhile. If i happen to get the mirror and it looks stupid, I'll change the light. Before that chandy there was an ugly brass foyer light there. I was in a hurry to get rid of it!

Sheesharee, I looked up the store and found only a link on ebay with cheap knockoff made in china kind of furniture. I don't think it is a second hand store-- but rather a budget import kind of store (quite a few list on the HBG CL). I expect in person it will be plastic.. maybe resin.

Personally, I would wait and look for something a little nicer for that spot. It is the first thing you see when you enter and leave your house--so it leaves an impression. It will also be close enough to your eyes-- and visitors that if the quality is lacking, it will be easily noticed.

I really think you can do better. I'll keep my eye out as I have some shopping to do in the coming weeks. A mirror is something you might find at the antique store in lemoyne! When I was last in, they had a lot of antique artwork and mirrors.

too late. bought it. it's in the back of my car. it's a liquidation store. a lot of the stuff was from JCP. they had everything from tables, furniture, lamps, barstools, etc.

in person i wasn't disappointed. i think it looks old/antiquey i really like the shape of it as well. always wanted a mirror similar.

doubt i can return in so hope it works out how i'm imagining. please cross your fingers for me.

also wanted to say the jcp price tag is still on it.

It will be great. I firmly believe that when you come across something you really like, it will work somewhere in your house even if not in the spot you first thought of.

That's why I'm a big impulse buyer!
