Not as massive as the PB ones. We have an open floor pan, which I like...but that limits wall space!

You mention having wine storage in your DR, so how do you envision using this piece and where is it located? If it's in a good spot for a beverage/snack center (e.g. for a party), then I would put the shelf with hanging stemware storage on the wall at the right. Otherwise, I'd store your stemware near your main wine storage.

In any case, I'd put a nice big mirror behind it (maybe in a nice frame to match the wood) and hang a pendant above it. I'd keep the top open for serving snacks and an ice bucket (if that's what it will be used for). Or display some favorite pictures on it, but I'd still trade the lamp for a pendant or maybe a pair of wall sconces on either side of a mirror.

If it's not really needed for wine storage / serving beverages and snacks, then there is nothing wrong with using it for something else. For example, it would look nice with colorful, rolled up placemats, napkins and towels where the wine bottles go. But that all depends on where it is located and how you plan to use it.

The bulk of my wine is in my wine cooler and there are about 16 bottles in the other room...I intend to move some over to here. My dining room is not really where people gather. They seem to gather here or mainly around the island near which is an extension to this room...which is why I sort of wanted a beverage area here. I did not think of different lighting optiongs as suggested. That is something to consider too.

I think it looks like a great spot for a bold piece of art. Because you already have the mirror over the fireplace facing in the same direction, I would probably not opt for another.

I must say, your house looks so loving and homey!

Thanks Paint chips I have a friend and her husband is an artist and does some bold pieces. I bet I could talk him into it if I go that way! Thanks for the compliment!

Does that piece really extend past that wall? Or is it an optical illusion? Because if so, it doesn't fit in that space IMO.

^^^It must be an optical illusion. It is pushed down a titch now. There is an inch and 3/4 on each side.

i would probably do either a mirror(i really like mirrors over servers) or something like the wine glass shelf(or maybe even a small, shallow glass doored wine glass cabinet). real candle sconces on either side if you don't really need the light---they look so pretty at night when lit!!

I think I will do the two shelves one regular and one with wine glasses. Then I think a chalk board like in the one oic or one of the prints like teacats posted. I really like the tuscan ones I also have a framed Black and white photograph of a special vineyard that would be neat framed and matted under there.
