Help for exterior paint idea with red clay tile roof

I have a stucco home with a red clay tile roof. ALl of the neighors' homes look the same. I need exterior paint suggestions that will make my home the most appealing on the street (but not southwest orange)! I have a picture but I'm not sure how to add it to the message...Any help would be appreciated!!

copy and paste the photo's URL into the body of the message (not the link area).

It will look like a long string of text, but when you preview, the picture will be in the body of the message

What part of the country do you live in? What colors have the rest of the neighbors painted their homes?

Looks like you have it thought out. I would suggest picking your roof color before you pick your paint color. Paint color is much easier to change over the years. Personally, I would pick a very neutral shade such as grey or black (like you suggested). This way you have many other color options for the color of your home as time goes on. You can find a beige/grey to soften the red in your brick. Versus a cooler grey (Wow that looks really blue next to the top one- but when by themselves, they both look more grey) It will be nice to see how your roof impacts the look of your home over the course of the year and throughout the different seasons. I am not sure where you are located but a north facing home, in the northern US, a grey will take on more of those blue tones. Yes, I would make those attic vents blend in. Here's what I recommend for your home. Embrace the lovely California Santa Barbara style for your home. Your home can be very special with a few adjustments. All the window frames should be bronze. Either replace them or paint them. Add a wood or faux wood wall pergola over your garage door and start bougainvillea trailing from the trellis Either select a wood grain garage door or have it painted to match your front door If you want to spend more money select Mexican tiles to install on the risers of your stairs for more interest. Your front yard needs some serious landscaping. No lawn IMO. Maybe ferns and a palm tree. Ferns in the front yard. Mexican planters are a must. You want this look for your home IMO. The paint color is not your issue. Landscaping is.

I think charcoal will look nice on the trim, but, its you who has to like it. Take Annas advise and put some poster paper cut to size and painted charcoal and tape it all the way around one window, and then make your decision. My advise is, pick your charcoal very carefully. I once painted a house charcoal. It was a beautiful color on the sample, and looked good when I put it on one corner of the house. Well, I bought it and spent days painting a 78 foot ranch house and when I was all done, I hated it. It looked very blue. Not only to me. Neighbors started giving directions to their house, by saying they were across the street from the very long blue house. I never changed it. We sold it. New owners loved it, they kept it. Then it was sold again due to a job transfer, and now it is painted white. Looks terrible. Not the type of house to be painted white. Everyone mentions how bad it looks.

Hi Jean-that was my first thought to ‘remedy’ the roof also. Unfortunately I have no idea who the manufacturer is or what type of paint to use, or how on earth to paint individual tiles. The contractor responsible has long since flown the coop. He drove me by some homes that had faux slate roofs, & I picked one I could live with. (For some reason, my husband was adamant about using the faux slate.) The contractor assured me the roof I had chosen had to have been custom ordered & he was going to track down the builder & get the combination. Weeks passed & one day he came by our house with some sample colors & told me I needed to pick the colors, that day!. I told him I had already chosen what I wanted & he informed me that no longer mattered. That we were starting all over using a totally different faux slate manufacturer. He assured me the red would appear as it does throughout our rock walls. I understood it would appear as random. Thanks again, for all comments! I’m desperate.

Sadly a red tile roof does limit the colors you can use on the exterior of the house. I'm in CA so we have lots of spanish & mediterranean houses. Most seem to be painted a yellowy-tan, but they can range from white to mustard-orange. Sherwin Williams has a brochure called "Desert & Southwest Style" which might give you some ideas.

That is the exact color of most of the houses with red clay tile roofs in my area. As I said, not too many choices with that combination. My house is more spanish, so we are replacing the generic garage doors with custom wood doors to match the existing front door. It should improve our curb appeal, even with our "common" house color.
