LOVE the wall color!

I think the stripe or border of frames is a cute idea, but perhaps works better in a hallway or on a longer expanse of walls. I am afraid that it might end up visually chopping up your walls in the kitchen even more. How about just doing a large grouping of them above the desk in that wall space? You could mix in a decorative wall plaque, perhaps a couple of framed postcards or other pieces of art, and get a nice wall-hung swing-arm lamp to use above the desk.

Think about adding some cool handles to the desk in the same brushed nickel, or whatever you kitchen cabinets may have, to add some texture and interest.

Before you decide on hanging wall art (or the nice clock), I am a little curious about the furniture placement. It feels a bit like one large circle of chairs.

Wondering if you might try the two upholstered chairs with their table and a lamp in the bow window area. Swing the couch around to sit more in front of the wall. Move the recliner and its table to the place where the two chairs were, and move the tv more into the corner.

A console table and lamp on the wall to the left of the door would be nice, perhaps a mirror above it, and would bring more lighting into the room.

I don't think you need drapery on the bow window. But if you want it, I would mount the rod above the window and hang panels on the outside of the space. Down the road you might think about adding trim around the windows to match what you have around the doors. You have the sills already, but especially on those kitchen windows I think it will really finish the look.

By the way, no need to put holes in the walls. Get the Command adhesive hooks and hangers at any home center. They work, don't leave marks, and come in weights and styles that work for almost everything.

I like Les's ideas about possible furniture re-arrangement too. We might have to push some chairs around.

I'm wondering about the wall next to the front door. That's a walkway so maybe not room to put a console? Would a large art work or mirror work there? And would it look ok with nothing under it?

A great inexpensive idea for wall art that I found in a magazine is to find two pieces of fabric that you like and attach them to three of the same size canvas boards. For example two of the same fabric on either side and one different fabric in the middle. They used the large picture size canvas ie.24 X 30 in. I think you can attach the fabric with a glue gun on the inside of the canvas board.

I'd love to a see a family gallery wall in the space OR perhaps on the wall going up the stairs? Take ALL of the family photos -- have them re-done into black-and-white -- with white or red (to bring that color over to the stairway area) mats and black frames -- just right for the staircase wall or in the hallway? A grouping like that will really create a wonderful family gallery!

With the strong red walls -- perhaps artworks would be nice! On the wall over the desk -- add two or three wall shelves in white -- with wicker boxes or baskets to hold desk "stuff" Useful and very decorative!

But do look around for artworks -- check shops like Target, T.J. Maxx etc. for larger colorful ones that will really bring visual balance to the red/green walls. For ideas -- check sites like art.com -- simply browse through their categories to get an idea of what kind of art appeals to you. Here's an example -- JUST an example!

les... i'll have to try the furniture rearrangement next weekend when mimi2006 visits. As for the console table, that is a walkway right by the door, so I don't think I would have room. I've always wanted trim around my windows, especially the one on the red wall in the kitchen. Maybe that will be my next project for DH.

teacats... I do have a print in mind. I was considering hanging it on the green walls, but with so much green, it may do better on the red to pull the green over. I'm hoping to pull the red over to the green with items displayed on the shelf behind the couch. It's not there yet but that's the plan. So if a print goes on the red wall, what about the clock behind the couch and rocker, next to a bookshelf?

I think I'm going to need some of the command release strips les suggested.

I've also been thinking that above the windows in the living room, I could place a row of decorative plates, as opposed to drapes there.
