Buyers Want some of my Furniture
Comments (14)In my case, I did not keep furniture & house separate & it worked out well for me. My buyers requested "all contents" and I knew very well that they were interested in two nice antiques. Since I was downsizing and moving across the country, I didn't really want to move furniture any way. Since they stated "all contents", I was able to walk out the door on closing day with very little stress. My realtor turned out to be buyer's realtor also & in this case, you really need to watch out for your own interests & maybe get legal advice. Good luck Susan...See Morecrappy contractor-what to do?
Comments (7)Lesson #1 is that anyone who solicits business at a box store isn't likely to be of the best quality. If he were, he'd be shopping at a trade supply house. Lesson #2 is NEVER hire any contractor without verifying references, checking insurance and licenses, and viewing past work that he's done. Lesson #3 If the contractor doesn't mention permits and inspections on any job bigger than changing a light bulb, then you don't want him in your home. Less #4 is to structure the payout schedule according to completion milestones. 10-20% to start the job, 50% at halfway, 80-90% when the job is 95% done, and the remaining 10-20% holdback 30 days after completion when any punch list items are taken care of. Lesson #5 The written word is gold. Verbal contracts are hard to enforce because each person can interpret it differently. Get it in writing! And that means everything! You want the materials to be used, the process that they should be installed with, the error tolerances that are acceptable, the timeline of the project, the payout schedule of the project, the process for written)change orders as well as what will happen if either of you breaches the contract. You might add your name and story to the police report, but don't expect to ever recoup anything from it or for the guy to actually go to jail. You're better off getting quotes from several licensed contractors to just fix the mess and suck it up and pay them to do it. Education is expensive, but not if you actually have learned from your mistake here. It will pay off in the long run....See MorePlease help w/washer-dryer recs!
Comments (45)If you don’t have a problem with a door that’s less than 18 inches from the floor, more power to you Sheilaaus, but I seriously doubt most people would be willing to go that route. I’m 4’11 and had to choose between getting on my knees to reach inside (which I tested at the store) or use a foot stool to see inside the soap dispenser, I chose the later. One plus of the Electrolux is they guarantee that their machines won’t vibrate and are suited for 2nd floors. So far so good. I’m not surprised you like your Whirlpool washer though, I really liked ours and as long as I kept the door open after each wash, I never had a problem with mold or oders. The door of our older Kenmore (like the duet) was much higher than the new models we looked at. It was perfect for someone my height. At least we were fortunate in that the store we bought our Electrolux machines from threw the pedistals in for a fraction of what they usually cost. The machines are pretty on the pedistals, but I hate using a foot stool. :c)...See MoreWas my SQ FL washer damaged during delivery
Comments (9)Exactly my feeling. No they did not give them to me even though I requested that they provide them. The worst thing is I had no idea they were removed so my GC and his plumber are moving the thing around on a dolly tilted up - definitely what SQ says not to do. The Kid, I say that as he is very young and has worked there for 9 months and obviously is in need of training both in service and customer service told me "we do not deliver things we remove and throw away" They can't seem to understand that they were NEVER supposed to remove them in the first place nor throw them away . Extemely poor service from my perspective. Their preferred warranty company is supposedly authorized by Speed Queen but not listed as first on the SQ list of servicers for this area. I plan on writing to the store manager, one of the family owners of the business. How much that will do, you can probably guess Definitely, probably not a store I will be buying furninture or tiles or anything in the future. Dadoes says I'm probably OK. I know he knows his stuff and I hope he's right. Inga...See Morencrealestateguy
