Need FL washer that doesn't ruin my clothing
Comments (22)My FL Samsung 338 spins at some 1300 RPM and my clothes do not end up in a ball up knot or wrinkled mass at the end of the wash cycle. In fact, my clothes are less wrinkled with this W/D set than they have been with any set Ive used. I could wear my clothes right out of the dryerÂbut I suffer from OCD so I iron everything, including my sheets, before I put them away. My experience thus far with the Samsung is very positive: gets clothing very clean; extremely quiet; gentle on my clothes; large capacity; offers many wash options including a warm rinse cycle, a steam clean, a quick wash cycle of 34 minutes and a rinse only option. It has a delayed start so I can load the machine at night and have a load ready for the dryer as soon as I get up in the morning so I get a jump on the laundry chore. The steam clean really works to get out stains. I thought it was a gimmick until I tried it on a bunch of towels that a full container of cola spilled on; it happened during our move when we were without a W/D for a week. Not only were the towels stained, but very stinky. I didn't expect the towels to come clean, but the steam feature got both the stains and the smell out. It also has brighten up my whites (I can't use bleach due to allergies and psoriasis) to the point that my husband actually noticed. I donÂt like to dry my clothes bone dry and this dryer allows me to dry my clothes to the point where there is just a tab bit of moisture left in them without my having to babysit the machine. All I have to do is lower the temperature on the machine to med low and set the timed dry to 40 minutes and the clothes come out just like I like them. Just a note on delivery: whatever brand you decide on, if you purchase pedestals just be adamant with the installers about NOT turning your machine upside down to install the pedestals. Some manufactures are now starting to go after the dealers about this; nonetheless, many dealers are still turning the machines upside down to install the pedestals because the machines are very heavy and itÂs more convenient to install the pedestals this way. Some installers will try to tell you itÂs ok to turn the washer upside down with the shipping bolts in placeÂnot true. Turning the washer upside down can damage the tub, knock it out of alignment, or other damage can occur in the process as the machines are very heavy. Even after the Samsung rep went to my local Lowes and told them to stop turning the washers upside down, the installer tried to tell me it was okay for him to turn the machine upside with the bolts in place. When the installer turned my dryer upside down, I made him take it back to the store and I called the Operations Manager for a little talk. (I stopped him before he turned the washer upside down. I made it very clear that if I am paying for the W/D, no one was turning anything upside downÂand I donÂt care if SamsungÂs rep said it was okay to turn the dryer upside down. A new dryer was sent out and it was not turned upside down. Bottom line: your money; your machines; you have a right to have the machine properly handled....See More2nd floor FL washer shaking like crazy....
Comments (5)We have had vibration problems with our Bosch, located on vinyl on our first floor. We had the floor underneath reenforced with 1/4 inch plywood, removed the pedestal from underneath it, installed and removed anti-vibration pads (which reduced vibration but increased dancing), and reduced the rpms from 1200 to no higher than 800. So far, so good! The repair guy has been out at least 10 times in the 2 years we've had it for vibration alone....See MoreKitchenaid FL Washer Ensemble
Comments (52)O.K. I get your POV, rpsinfoman. I happened to be at Home Depot yesterday and saw the Maytag Epic washer and dryer in black. You were right, they are the exact same machines as the KA Ensembles. However, they were not priced lower than the KA Ensemble washer and dryer. They were priced the same as the original price of the white or black KAs (not the floor model price I got) at Western Appliance. Home Depot didn't have the Whirpool Duets, so I couldn't compare the pricing there, but the Duets were definitely cheaper than the KAs at Western Appliance. Maybe Maytag is trying to raise the profile of the Maytag name? I also understand the "prestige" factor in a label. I was all set to buy a Kenmore DW and FD refrigerator, but my sister-in-law said I couldn't have Kenmore in my kitchen because it wasn't appropriate to the value of my house (her family is in real estate). I went to Western Appliance, and found the same appliances but with a Kitchen Aid label - and negotiated a lower total price than I was going to get at Sears, and my sister-in-law was happier with that choice! Very funny!...See MoreProper Installation for FL washer - how do I ensure this?
Comments (6)If the washer is adjacent to an exterior wall you'll have less chances of vibration than you would if the washer is against an interior wall. That's because exterior walls are usually more rigid than interior walls because they have to support the weight of the roof and floors. Locating the washer in a corner with two exterior walls is even better. If your house is still in the framing stage, ask the contractor to provide extra bracing in the floor to ensure that it's as rigid as possible. If it's too late for that, and you later find you're having a vibration problem, the floor can be strengthened by laying a 3/4" thick piece of plywood, large enough to support the washer on the floor, and screw it into the floor joists with long screws at 6"-9" intervals. That will provide you with a very rigid floor under the washer. If you're even moderately handy, I recommend installing the washer yourself, in exact accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. It's not difficult, just a bit tedious employing the "trial and error" method of ensuring that you've got the leveling feet adjusted properly. You're likely to spend as much time as necessary to get it right, a professional installer may not want to spend the time it takes to get the machine optimally level and flat on the floor. It is vital that the machine be properly leveled and the weight of the machine is evenly distributed to all four feet. If you're unwilling or unable to do the installation yourself, be sure to get a guarantee of satisfaction from whomever you engage to do the installation. If possible, don't pay for the installation until after the machine is installed and you've ascertained that vibration isn't a problem. One other thing, be sure to specify that the shipping struts (or bolts, as the case may be) are not removed from the washer until after the machine is moved up your stairs. Bouncing up a stair on a dolly with the struts (or bolts) removed, will cause damage to the suspension. Delivery people always want to remove the struts while the washer is still on the truck. Don't let them, and insist that they leave the struts with you, so they can be reinstalled if you ever need to move the machine....See Moreifoco
