Odessa, this is the second year for the retreat and they've been planning it since early this spring. Well, maybe since they went last year! It sounds like a great time in a beautiful setting. And we know the company and the quilting would be a delight! I'm just hoping that it's still going on by the time I can finally retire and have time to join them!

If I remember right, this is the third year for the retreat. But, yes, it's a beautiful setting, beautiful quilting retreaters and good food. Gwen, have a little sleep-aid for me. Hey, ya'll, take a picture of the wallhanging we made them last year. Where did they end up hanging it? I know you'll have a blast!

I am so excited to hear how the retreat goes too!! It sounds like a fabulous place and I can't wait to "see" what you gals come up with! I just retired this July 1st so maybe someday I can join you. Of course I'd have to plan a vacation around the retreat because So. Calif. to North Carolina is quite a trek. ~LOL~ But I have a good friend who lives in Summerville, NC so you just never know. Oh, by the way retirement is AWESOME!! It's been the best 3+ months of my life so far...

I flew out of San Francisco. When the subject of quilting comes up, some of us find a way! And, next year we are planning on RV facilities for another option. Lots of discussion here. That sleep aid really makes for wild thoughts!

OK....I was looking at the gorgeous fabric you girls created! I'm at my own Camp Woe-B-Gone quilt retreat. I have 2 whole blocks done! DH is off to the fairgrounds with his model car buddies.

You think an RV can actually get up to Camp Cheerio? What'd they do? Widen the road? We were hanging off the side of the mountain in our van.....I kept leaning toward the inside when we went around those twists and curves.

I don't need the RV to get me to the camp (although ours is pretty small 24' and on a truck chassis) BUT,... DH & I can load stuff on our little scooter & he can drop me off (maybe a couple trips ...) just the RV to travel East from Colorado!

We have to check out the Stone Mrn Campground nearby. We may help each other by ferrying from down there up to Cheerio, if need be. There is no rv facilities at Cheerio.
Have to check with Stone Mtn Park about RV parking.

Because the timing was perfect for our RV schedule....returning to FL from RI...I thought it would be neat! We drive right through NC and that is something I always wanted to do, "A quilt getaway". But then I found out, that wouldn't be a good idea. Maybe next year!....

Is the second floor nicer than the first floor? Is the pool still open or is there a fire in the fireplace now. In other words, hows the weather at this time of year at that altitude? Sweatshirts? Parkas?

Looks like Jennifer can start a list for next year already! Will need more mice, more night aid, more extension cords, larger table to sit around for the games......y'all better start making a list while you're there. @:)

I am green sitting here wishing I could go, maybe someday!!! Thanks for sharing this is great fun to dream about going one day. Retirement is about five years away yet but that would make a nice retirement gift to me!!!

Oh my gosh the quilts are awesome!! I can't believe you guys did all that work in just a few days; I'm very impressed! You all look like you've had such a good time. Do you travel with your sewing machines (on planes?) and all the fabric etc? I have so many questions but I'll wait for you all to return and take a breath..

I'm home again - "jiggety jog." My ears still haven't adjusted from coming off the mountain but I made the trip safely home. Bev, Jen, and I stayed until just after lunch and it only took me a little over 2 hours to drive home - had
to stop to see if a fabric shop was still in business, don't you know! It wasn't. :o(

We really had a great long weekend at the retreat. I had forgotten how beautiful Camp Cheerio is in the fall. You can see for miles from the camp which overlooks a valley. This morning we had pancakes, sausage, blueberry sauce and syrup, fruit and coffee/tea/juice for breakfast. Last night was prime roast beef, roasted vegetables, steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes, au jus, salad bar, rolls, and warm peach cobbler. See why we look forward to the meals at Cheerio?

There was a group of Indian Guides at the camp this weekend with young-ish dads and darling boys and girls staying two nights at the camp. They carved pumpkins, made scarecrows, road the camp horses, took hikes, went fishing etc. and had a ball. A couple of hearty souls even went in the lake swimming.We saw them at meals mostly and had a lovely quiet time sewing upstairs in the Sloan Center without interruption.

Our retreat at Camp Cheerio is the perfect get-away from making meals, cleaning up, chauffeuring family, answering the phone, being on call for children and hubby - in other words we retreat from our regular life. We sew, play some quilters games, go to bed early or stay up late, get to know our new friends (that we already know from the forum), sit on the porch and read, take a nap when we want, walk/hike for exercise (well, some of us do...) or just do nothing at all if we feel like it. This is why we encourage you to come to our forum retreat next year!

One note.... all that hand-dyed fabric was not mine - ha! don't I wish! I was hiding the recipe cards for each fabric before we took pics. I dyed three pieces and was gifted two others by our teacher, Linda (toolgranny). What a wonderful job she did planning our class! Again, a big THANK YOU!, Linda.

I'll post my pics later tonight - got laundry to do.

I made it home un-eventfully at 6:30pm...just a 5 hour trip with one short stop for gas. There was a bit more traffic today than on Thursday, but by the time I hit the VA border the clouds started breaking up and I had lovely colors on the hills to watch as I drove north.

Both little ones were very happy to see Mom home, but I think not as much as the dog who is still making noise & being crazy outside!

I have had a wonderful, restfull, reviving weekend away! I think I can now possibly cope with unloading, unpacking and laundry, as well as the normal activities here at home!

Thank you ladies so much for sharing this time with me at Camp! I look forward to doing it again next year. Linda, thank you so, so much for all your efforts with the fabric dying workshop!! You don't know how much we appreciated that!

Teresa, glad you made it home safely...sorry about the fabric shop, though !

Gwen & Rob are home safely as well...already doing laundry!

Beverly should be getting home soon...I'm sure she'll post when she gets settled.

Now only to hear from Fran & Linda...

How How, (don't ask). I'm home safely, got here about 30 minutes ago. The grands were barely awake when I got here, but got hugs before they fell asleep. They saved me some pizza for dinner.

We did have a great time. This was a very productive year too. I now have 5 quilts sandwiched and ready to quilt. Ran out of fabric for backs or I would have had 7. Gotta plan better for next year. Working on the big tables sure is better than scooting around on the floor at home.

I even managed to get in well over my 10,000 steps a day by taking walks before breakfast every day. Got to see some great sunrises and lots of deer too. Thank goodness for unlimited coffee.

Glad everyone has had safe trips home so far.

One note about our quilt show, many are quilts we brought from home and some are tops we assembled from blocks we brought. We didn't make all those there. Sharon even had one on the rail and she wasn't there. Jen got lots done, me only a few PP blocks. We just throw everything out there to impress the natives.

We make a small wall hanging as a gift to the camp each year. This year we made T cups and you'll find it in the pictures somewhere.

Here is a picture of the Tea Cup Quilt donated to the camp. I had to crop it out, so the colors are quite muted. Did anyone think to take a picture of the back?

Linda and I arrived back in Charlotte by 1 p.m. Sunday. She stayed with me until my sister arrived to pick me up and then she caught the shuttle to the airport. It was a wonderful weekend and now I am reliving every moment by telling all to my sister and brother in law. I assume Linda made it home safely but hope she posts soon to let us know for sure.

That's my Sunny Lanes bed quilt from the Nickel Quilts book using 5-inch squares. And yes, it is done using 1930's reproduction fabrics, some authentic 30's, and some odd checks and plaids thrown in for a good mix.

We are back in Murphy, NC and at the library for web stuff...it was a wonderful time at camp. Our gals are so sweet! Linda, thanks so much for not only teaching us about dying fabric, but the many treasured memories it will bring to us when we actually make a project with those pretty fabrics!
So happy to hear that so many of you are interested in next years retreat...be sure to stay posted @ Springtime when details are worked out and sign-ups are available...you never know what will be instore for the next camp...
