Question for Romance Readers....

Are Victoria Taylor Murray novels a lot more uh... romantic than Fern Michaels?? I have an 80 year old aunt's birthday coming up and she is a big Fern Michaels and Nora Roberts fan.. but I think she's read most of their books already. Are Victoria Taylor Murray books about the same as Fern and Nora's as far as the sex in them?? I don't want to embarrass my aunt by giving her something that she normally wouldn't read, but I don't read these type of books so I really don't know.

Are there other authors you would recommend? Victoria's books got very good reviews on Amazon which is why I am asking about her.

debbie macomber...her books are about people you would know yourself. her blossom street series are wonderful.

nora has a new series out but as this lady and i discussed at costco neither of us cared for it..

Oh the JD Robb books are terrific!! The perfect romance in that the male character is rich and handsome and they really love each other. Humour thrown in as well, when she hates being treated like a female and abhors having to wear anything dressy. I love the futuristic things the author comes up with. Glad you gave it a try Susan. Have you read any of the "numbered series" Stephanie Plum stories by Janet Evanovich? Very funny!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think even when you use italics for foreign words, you're supposed to drop the italics after the first time you use the word. OKwriter--go with your instincts. Anything that's overused tends to lose its impact, whether it's italics or saying "I love you" a hundred times a day. :) I can look in my style guides if you want a definite answer. Do you have Chicago Manual of Style?

I name mine my Pandigital is ANDI for obvious reasons. My sylvania is sylvia. My lookbook is I can not reacall if I named it or not but my husband has one exactly like it so I have put a pink band around the cover so we can spot the difference easily. In some of the post on computer help others have mentioned the names for theirs. My friend named her Kindle Ken. by the way anyone with Kindles I was just at Tuesday Morning and they had some fabulous deals on leather covers I bought one in hot pink for $14 I am giving it to my sister for hers. Unfortunately none they had would fit my sylvania which is the only one I have that would need one. They also had the type that actually hook in to the side of the Kindle like the original ones did. They are by M-Edge. Other than that in general I call them my Readers

I agree that Debbie Macomber is just what you want. I've never heard of that Murray person. Debbie's new book "Twenty Wishes" is very good. Another great lady writer is Ann B.Ross. Her Miss Julia books are very funny.

I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips' books (I'm 79). There is some sex in there but not overly descriptive and they are also funny, a good combination. She has a football series that is hilarious and one not of the series called "First Lady" about a woman whose dead husband was President and one named "Breathing Room," about a business woman and a movie star.

I just went on to the Barnes & Noble site to look up Victoria Taylor Murray and read the synopsis of several of her books and it looks like she is probably a combined mystery/romance writer. I have never run across any of her books, but now that I have her name I will take a look for them. I notice she has written some series books and I always like those.

I looked her up on Amazon and was surprised at the prices asked for her books in the used section. Then I looked her up on AbeBooks, another used book site, and although the prices aren't as outrageous as some of those on Amazon, they are still more than the price usually asked. Now I am really curious to read some of her books.

Another one of my favorite authors is LaVyrle Spencer.
I have read all of her books. She is retired now.

Don't forget Cynthia Freeman - excellent romance writer along the Nora,Luanne,LaVyrle lines and not too explicit.

I think the Mitford series of books by Jan Karon are perfect for an older person. They all take place in the small eastern town of Mitford (I think Connecticut) & deal with all the people living in the town & their various problems & joys. Definitely worth a try for someone that age, and very easy reading.

Judy made me think of the Tyler books with her suggestion of the Mitford Series - can't remember who wrote the Tyler series, but they are also about small town life.
