Are you sure it's not allergies? If it's a cold, there are some things you can take to feel better but the only real medicine is seven days. Rest and plenty of fluids. If you have high blood pressure Corociden BP or Robotussin for high blood pressure is acceptable (read the labels) If blood pressure is not a problem than any over the counter decongestant will help. A nasal spray helps give relief so you can sleep, but should be used discriminately. If after ten days you still have symptoms, see a doctor because you have more than likely gone into a secondary infection and need an antibiotic.

Sorry your feeling so bad. When I'm sick I usually take something like Nyquil or the walmart brand. It will help you get some sleep.

Read the labels and avoid all-in-one pills. Get a separate decongestant, pain medication, antihistamine (runny itchy eyes are not a cold, but allergy), a cough suppressant and a mucus control (loosener) medications, and take as needed for your symptoms. Whether allergies or a cold, you aren't curing it, you just need to make the symptoms bearable until it passes.

For any virus, like a cold I take lots of L-Lysine and Vitamin C. Seems to help.

slather Vicks on the whole bottom of your feet, cover them with sox and go to bed.
Don't laugh until you have at least tried it.

A couple weeks ago I was into the second day of a cold developing. I did this for two nights and it was gone.

Anesthesia! Seriously, I know that's impossible but I recently went in for some procedures with a bad cold and the anesthesia knocked it right out of me.

Last time I tried to fight off a common cold with over-the-counter meds and remedies, I ended up so sick, I wonder if I didn't somehow aggravate things.

Zicam nose spray...it really stops the drippies and at least makes that cold bearable!

Zinc tablets will relieve the symptoms of a cold. DO NOT swallow them. They must be held against the palate and allowed to dissolve.

Robitussin for the cough, zinc losenges for the sore throat.

I rarely get a cold. I have only had one cold in the 5 winters I have been in Iowa. On those rare occasions, I use ColdEeze lozenges at the first sign of a scratchy throat. It shortens the cold and eases the symptoms.

Zicam - at the first sign of symptoms though so that probably isn't the answer for you now. I think they took the nose spray off the market due to some kind of side effects. I never cared for the spray anyway and have always used the lozenges. They work wonders for minimizing symptoms and making the whole thing go away quickly.

Get out a jug of your favorite booze and use Andy Capp's secret cure: "Flood a cold, and drown a fever!"

If I feel like I am coming down with something, I like to take some Airborne or something like it. Haven't had a cold all winter I don't think. Nipped it in the bud.

Tylenol green liquid gel caps. I carry them when we travel. "IF" we get a cold scuba diving it could ruin our whole trip....sooooooooo....these clear your sinuses enough to scuba dive and that's saying something!!!

OTC cold meds are mostly ineffective and useless. If you must use them use the proper medication for the symptom. Aspirin or tylenol for head ache or fever,decongestant for stuffy nose (inhalers and sprays are safer than oral meds)and an expectorant like Mucinex to help clear cloggy bronchi and lungs. Those all in one cold remedies don't work as well and you can time the others to you individual needs taking less to do more in the process.

An old fashioned vaporizer helps too.
