Maybe something like Benjamin Moore Mayonnaise if you are looking for a very light creamy/soft yellow.

My last house was covered head-to-toe by the previous owners in BM Filtered Sunlight. Nice enough color, but in that house, with taupe carpeting, it was ghastly.

Navajo white?

I doubt the builders are all using the same yellow color, and as Amy's comment illustrated, colors look different based on lighting and surrounding colors. To the good suggestions already offered, I'll add Benjamin Moore Jicama. It's one of the Pottery Barn colors, and I love it in bright light, but in my dark house it's too yellow. And while I don't think of Navajo White as being yellow, it's definitely a common color in apartments or new construction (I'm only familiar with Ace Royal and Benjamin Moore, but I think every line of paint has a color called "Navajo White"). Oh, and Benjamin Moore's website has a section where they list their favorites of each color group. Consentino Chardonnay is described as "With its hint of golden yellow, this light, creamy neutral brightens hallways and entryways".

Amy...are you the Amy of the Anything Pretty blog? Loved the Ivoire! I'm trying to decide if my decor will let me go that direction or if I need to stick to more of a brownish-beige.

Generally the color used here for apartments, etc. is BM linen white. It goes great with most things.

Ben Mo - Linen White becomes a pale yellow against white trim. Can be very subtle or in the right light a bit bolder but it's never an in your face kind of color.

We used SW Ivorie what is a light yellow tint neutral. It looks different with in different ones homes so might want to use a sample board to test the color out if you decide to give it a try. Bonnie I have pics in my album if you want me to a post a link.

SW Believable Buff perhaps?

I've seen SW Antique White lots of places (including my own house). It's a yellowish cream.

It really depends in what era the house was built. As recent as the last 5 years, a warm beige seems to be the builders choice. Several years ago it was Navajo White, which looked a pale creamy yellow if the room wasn't getting too much light~~in bright light it looked more ivory. Lighting is the biggest factor when it come to color~i've learned that the hard way!

Like northcarolina, i've used the SW Antique White and liked that too, a hint of yellow, also. ;o)

30 years ago, the builders in our area used Navajo White and patty_cakes describes the color well.

I agree that Navajo White was a popular choice.

The colour does change slightly when the sun is streaming in(that's when I like it best)

Another color to look at (I have no idea what color builders use, this is just a general suggestion!) is BM Rich Cream. I used it in my sunroom and I was just looking at it over the weekend and thinking, this is such a NICE color! Definitely a creamy yellow without being Yellow, if you know what I mean.

I second Rich Cream but would also look at BM Windham Cream!

SW Biscuit is nice also. It's a light warm beige. It wasn't enough color for me, but we liked it very much.

I'm tying to remember the brand name, but five(ish) years ago the builders were all using a yellow color called Fawn I believe. Then they switched to a toupe/ beige.

I just chatted with a friend (who is a commercial painter). He said the "Fawn" color was the beige color. He doesn't remember the name of the yellow either.

So I was no help at all! :)

I walked into our BM store a few years ago and asked them for their best selling builder's color and they looked at me like I was crazy. They didn't have an answer for me either. I felt like I had asked someone outright for their trade secret!

A friend of mine recommended BM Calming Cream for me to look into.
I have been looking at so many whites,creams and yellows lately and happened to come across this website that list 'top selling BM paints by room'. I have no idea what year the list was creAted . If you google.. Breslow.com top selling paints , yup will find it. I am not on my full computer so hard for me to link it for you.

I agree with the posts that said SW Antique White. Our builder used McCormick Paint's Cool Platinum and when we recently repainted our ceiling I chose SW Antique White and you could barely tell the difference between that and the builder's color. SW Antique White is a nice off white that has a hint of yellow and it looks great against white trim.

A former co-worker had a BM color in her house that looked yellow but actually was not. She gave me a paint chip, but I lost it because I moved and never used it to paint my former home. But I know exactly what you mean, and it's a super nice neutral color.
