Feedback on Laura Ashley (Valspar) vs. Benjamin Moore?
Comments (13)IMHO, The difference between BM and Valspar is night and day. Its like comparing a Cadillac to a geo metro. BM is the best covering, easiest applying and most durable paint you can buy. The ONLY paint ive seen that comes close that is a lowes/home depot special is Behr. This is coming from a previous co-owner of a res/comm paint contracting business, so in other words, ive put gallons on in my day. I would recommend BM to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Sure, it might be a few more $$ /gallon, but you will save in the long run. laurielou56-It sounds to me like when you tried to paint the two bedrooms and had streaking and bad coverage, perhaps you painted latex over oil based. Not all latex primers will go over top oil based paint. You would need something like Benjamin Moore Fresh Start. Im not certain what the valspar line would be or if they even make one. Here is a way to test it, if the paint has been on for a few days, and you can take your fingernail and pick the paint off, odds are, you painted over oil. Im not saying this is the case, just a hunch cause 3 coats of primer and a coat of finish should hide just about anything. -Matt...See MoreLaura Ashley Gold 2
Comments (3)I'm really surprised you are seeing 'pea soup green' in LAGold #2. I've splotched it in many places, but it is always a pale gold color, too lifeless in my house for sure. I have the #3 in my bedroom and really like it, but it does turn pretty intense at night. Perhaps you need something that has more of a brown to it to mitigate your green effect? Try posting your question on the Decorating forum, and if you have a photo, put that in your post too. Red...See MoreLaura Ashley Gold 2
Comments (7)kmcg35, sorry I didn't respond. Had a car accident, so have been a little preoccupied. But, thanks so much for the pics. I do have to say, that color, with your particular lighting, is stunning. In my bedroom, however, my sample does not look anything like that. It is dark! I even went and bought another one so I could sample a larger area and it is definitely too dark. I am actually going to try mixing the 2 and 3 this week and play around with it a little to lighten it up. I will let you know how it does and post a picture if I end up using it. Thank you for being so helpful. And don't worry, it was only a fender-bender and it was my car that got creamed the most. Guess what I was thinking about when I rear-ended the car? Don't, I repeat, don't think about mixing paint formulas while driving to the paint store!...See MoreLaura Ashley Gold 3...question
Comments (7)Hey, I know all about obsessing and indecisiveness! TR is not too dark. It is a nice rich color. It is the only color I love in all light. I don't like the LA 3 as much in all honesty. The threads Parma has linked to also are pretty colors very similar. Actually, I like the Deer Path in Noras post so much, I'm sorry I didn't know about it way back when. All of them are pretty similar, just go with the one that tugs at your heart the most! (can you believe I am talking about paint like that?..."tugs at your heart" ????) As an aside, there is a poster that saw my pics and emailed me for the TR paint chip so she could have it matched. She sent me pics after it was painted and it looked great and she was a happy camper. I don't know her forum name, and I won't share her pics unles she posts them herself, but if she's here, maybe she can help....See Moremissmary - 6b/Central Maryland
