There are two building envelopes to consider when evaluating payback on energy efficiency homes and appliances (see comments re: high efficiency fridge.) One is the home itself. The 2nd is the planet.

This was so helpful to me in understanding alternatives. My husband and I downsized from a large home with acreage to a much smaller townhome. We were anxious about the change but in retrospect, we should have done it sooner. Our energy usage and taxes have been reduced by 35%.
