No picture, sorry. It's in an armoire that also holds the DVD player, small set of speakers, and all our CDs/DVDs in baskets/binders. We shut the doors when not watching, which hasn't been nearly as inconvenient the male half of the house thought it was going to be :D

Last year when my DH started strongly hinting (months ahead of time!) that he'd like a big flat screen tv for Father's Day, I told him we'd better first find me a big place to hide it for Mother's Day ;^)
Our family room has a difficult layout, with only one wall for a tv cabinet to fit on, so our options were minimal. I saw some awesome, big & tall entertainment centers at Ethan Allen, but they were too large for our space.
Here's the plasma lift console that I ended up getting for Mother's Day:

The thing is, in our house, DH controls the "home entertainment."

Which means that we have a TV, receiver, XBox console, satellite TV receiver, Squeezebox music "jukebox," huge speakers on each side, and a speaker in the center.

Which means that the components won't fit in any standard piece of furniture.

Which means that DH has to build something.

Which means that he has to design it, buy the materials, clean up his shop so he can get to his saws, and find the time and energy to actually build it.

Which means that we won't have our "entertainment center" for a long long time.

Which means that we have blocks of wood holding up the TV.

I know this doesn't help you at all, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to vent! :)

Here's our monstrosity of a 72" TV. I was shocked at the size my DH picked out, but I guess it'll be good for when we get old and blind...
Wish we could have had some doors on the front to hide it, but couldn't make it work. Turns out, it really doesn't bother me much.

I don't know if you have a flat screen TV or a regular one?... but here's mine. About half the size of superchick's! We have a small living room.

I'm very interested in this thread -- we're about to upgrade to a flat screen and want something pretty to put it on/in, so that we can hide DH's stereo components etc in there too. LynnNM, what brand of console did you get, and how are you liking it? So pretty!

Here's mine. I wanted a large EC to fill up the space on this wall and balance the room. I wanted something that would be proportional to the size of the TV itself.

Here's mine. Please excuse the heaps of toys and Little Bill on the tube. I didn't have time to clean up before we took this picture.

My TV's bigger than you all's TVs. We have a pull-down 110 inch screen and front projector. It's a little more hassle to start up, and I don't have small kids, but it's a great way to watch movies.

I work in TV, and I don't want to watch a little monitor, as I gaze at them all day long. The projector is a ceiling mount, and we've got speakers, bass assist, and all the usual gizmos.

We've got a screening room, so controlling the light isn't an issue. When I agreed to this, I cannot tell you how happy my husband was. It's not the usual choice, and not everyone has the space for this, but I don't have to decorate around it.

DH wanted a huge tv. I said nothing bigger than 42"-47".... ran across this on craigslist and scarffed it. Has tons of room and we get lots of compliments but the tv space only fits a 32". couldn't quite squeeze a 36. DH actually didn't fight me much because he likes the stand so much. When we finish the basement he's going to get his "man room" to put all his hunting/sports paraphernalia and a pull down projector screen. The only thing that bites about this stand is it's so big this is the only wall it fits on. if you'd get rid of the crown moulding i'd have two more wall options. oh well!

this is after we first got it in the room. there's now a flat screen for in there. i just don't have any close up shots of the whole thing.

Shesharee, what a beautiful EC!!! I love the finish on it and am envious of all that storage.

Walkin: our console is from Landmark. We picked this one because it had more storage than most and the color (dark cherry) goes really well with our new kitchen cabs. The console itself is very nice, but the shipping on it was a nightmare! It came from California and the first one arrived with two holes thru the front of it from a forklift loader. The second one arrived and the movers broke one of the wheels on it. They also left it in pieces all over my family room because they couldn't figure out how to mount the tv onto it's lift. This thing is very heavy and the only people the company (Landmark)could get to come out and fix the wheel were the frighteningly incompetent local movers. They were so awful, we declined and have just left it as is.
A local store would have been a much better choice. That said, on the whole these plasma lift consoles are fantastic inventions! You do need the side pieces if you want a place to store more than two components, though. Most have little storage room in their main cabinet. The exception are the big Ethan Allen plasma lift EC's with the top hutch. They have the lift system, great looks, good quality and lots of storage in the tall side tower pieces. We looked all around and those are the best quality with the best storage . . .if you have the room for them.

And uxorial . . .thanks for the chuckle! I can relate to your DH-- I have my idea of "perfect" sometimes so instead I just get nothing while I wait!

Here is the obnoxious TV in my husband's home theater room. He's actually selling it to make room for an even more obnoxious one. Men! The drapes in there are light-blocking, so we don't _normally_ stare back at ourselves... just during photo ops I guess. :P Sorry for the miss, I'm in the middle of redecorating in there and obviously not done!

I don't have pics handy of the other TVs, but the TV in the great room is on a wooden corner stand. TV in the home office is a wall-mounted flat screen above a lateral filing cabinet. TV in the master bedroom is sitting on top of an armoire (used to be in, but we needed the space). The others are in our storage room because DH is reticent to part with them, even though they're unused...

Almost every room is a problem when it comes to a monster tv...they were designed by men, I'm sure.
Our's was the wall where we wanted it (across from the sofa) was only a 10 foot wall cause the wall was cut in half by a door...I wanted to be able to
put a chair on either side of the tv, so we designed the smallest tv unit we could.

I'm *so* glad I'm not the only one with a big ol' honkin "monstrosi-TV". For some reason I always feel like I have to hide these photos, as I'm embarassed by the size of our TV.

for those with huge tv's i agree with superchic about being old someday. i'll have to sit on the floor like DH does :) right smack in front! ha
