Hi, I can't show you a pic because it hasn't arrived yet, but I ordered a custom hood from Rangecraft. I saw one in one of the Better Homes and Gardens Kitchen magazines and really liked the look. They have a lot of different styles from old world to modern. Not the least expensive way to go for sure... but it will make a nice statement. We went with the Taconic in Stainless with a pot rail on the front and bands with rivets on the corners. We'll have to see how it looks when it is in (I am keeping my fingers crossed). I only did it on one wall of my galley. And I don't live there anymore. I miss it! The 18s were great. I could use all the bottom shelf and the front of the next two (I got a lot of shelves) without stretching. The 30" bottoms of course were even better... No important switches on that wall--just the one for the sink and undercab lights I think. You'll want an air switch for the disposal. No good photos of course. People didn't really notice that the two sides were different depths. Guess I only had 2 uppers. I fit all my dishes and glassware and mugs and stuff in one. Now, one thing to keep in mind is that these photos are from MY perspective. People of standard height did not see the undercabinet shelving while standing. Oops? (I'd do it again.) So you can hide things in plain sight from adults but kids will see them.

Now you have all made me lean on this computer and bawl my eyes out. Well...not quite, but I am sick with envy and remorse. :D Beautiful kitchens are shown by all and you must be terribly thrilled. Let me say that I have a 36" GE Profile that is practically sitting in the pathway, beckoning every purse and bookbag that enters this house. Each day that I sit and sip my coffee, I notice a new ding on this stainless monstrosity. My cute, perky and dimwitted kd skipped out as soon as the plans were drawn and the appliances were already ordered. (I think she went to Hollywood to apply for "The Bachelor") DH and I were left to muddle through on our own with the very patient GC. I found you guys too late....I already had about SIX INCHES of the fridge sitting out in everyone's way. When I FINALLY got the drift of counter depth fridges after coming here, it was way too late. SIGH...I love this forum and I know what to do the next time. I only hope I'm not too old, feeble and suffering with dementia to find you guys when I'm able to afford an update.

We needed the narrow backsplash because the back flange of the range went all the way to the Very back edge of the counter. Shaping the soapstone to fit over this was easy. Shaping the glass to fit over this would have been very difficult and expensive. The bonus is that black thing that sticks up 1+ inch at the back of the grate blends in to the black soapstone, whereas it would have been noticeable against the glass. You can see that there is a narrow backsplash of soapstone in the last picture very clearly, but it is not that noticeable generally, (say as compared to a 4"one). The outlet is there by necessity, but again from far away it sorta blends in.
