This is way too weird. I've been mulling over 3 color choices for my great room. I thought I had decided on one of the three - Dunmore Cream, so I came here to search for pictures and found this thread. You'll never guess what my other two choices were. Pittsfield Buff and Monroe Bisque! I showed my husband this thread and he thought it was me joking with him. :) My room has very similar colors to yours. My sofas are a darker/distressy leather look, it looks like we have the same wood blinds. My drapes are solid, but the same overall ruddy/rust orange color. My fireplace is tile, but it's a grayish, creamish, reddish color. The wood in my room is oak. I'm pretty much decided on Dunmore Cream. The green undertones go well with the oak/blinds and rustic pine furniture, and it's a beautiful contrast against the rust/red colors. The more I look at Monroe the more it's too taupey, and the more I look at Pittsfield (which I LOVE), the more it's too middle of-the-road-neutral. I will probably repaint DH's bathroom with it - I painted it Applesauce Cake and hate it. Anyway, I'm not sure Dunmore will give you the neutral light gold you're looking for, but I think it would be a great backdrop for the family of reds you have in your room. My bedroom is Raffia Basket by Sherwin Williams. It's a retired color but they can still mix it, and I know there are tons of pics of it around. Have you looked into that color? It's a great neutral gold without being gold. Benjamin Moore's Vellum is another neutral gold that I'm currently loving, but it's a richer color than Raffia Basket.

I have Powell buff on my ceiling in my FR and bone trim and it looks fine.....I also have it in my master bath and it looks good. Can't advise on navaho...

This HAS been painful in the sense that I really dislike being in limbo, uncertain, and indecisive, which has also been time-consuming since I have been looking at paint colors off and on for 2 or 3 years, and stewing around about them trying to figure this out. To clarify regarding the Carlisle Cream with the hint of pink: this is not the trim color. I will try to see if I can find the name somewhere in my files, but the color of the trim for all of the house and most of the ceilings has a yellowish cast. The Carlisle Cream is only on the ceiling in the DR & MBR (and the paint chosen for the DR will also be used in the MBR which faces NW), as well as the walls of the mudroom, laundry, powder room, and MBath. You are correct that it fights with yellow, because the tiles have hints of yellow tones, and it does not look good there. Except for the 2 ceilings, the Carlisle Cream will be changed to something that goes better with all of the tiles and countertops that probably need a color with some yellow, rather than pink, in it. When we painted our former N facing foyer with Pittsfield Buff, it really pulled together the colors of the 2 small rugs and tile, which are almost the same as what we have now. But that is a whole nuther story. Wythe & Palladian Blues are on my "possible" list, so I will give them further consideration. The HC 139-141 at first glance under kitchen lighting seemed minty, but the lighting in the LR is halogen, so they look different in there. I will need to see them on a sunny day. Another vote for HC 146, 147, and Gray Wisp is good! And I really like your suggestion of Quiet Moments. It is interesting that you say, "all greens seem to go together", which I had heard before. The reason I got a new LR rug was that my old one had multiple colors of green and greenish gold on a cream field, and to me it clashed with the fireplace in daylight. I moved it into the kitchen eating area that has the same slate tile on the other side of the 2-way FP where it only gets light from the NW which is not directly on it as it is in the LR, and it looks perfect in the different light! Also, if I turned the LR rug around, it would look much better upon entering the room, but to me the green from that direction looks awful with the FP green. I think it will be a lot easier to choose the DR paint than that for the LR. I will definitely pursue looking at grayed colors for both rooms, but I would still like to try maybe a rich tan that does not lean to red or yellow and see if that could work in the LR to pull out those colors in the rug, but maybe nothing will do this? I suppose that would only add to the blendy feeling that I am so good at achieving. I had originally imagined having a sort of rich, dark cream, but I guess that would mean yellow, so it is out. A correction regarding the "drapes." They are actually 4 drapery panels on each side of a 7 ft triple casement that help to set off the piano and a small chest near the creamy beige rug, and at each end of a 4 window bank (each 42" wide) next to the chest and behind the mauve wing-back near the FP. They are not directly next to the 9 x 12 "green" rug. The 2 rugs are separated by the sofa, so you do not see much of the Bokhara when entering the LR. I know that all the detail causes many people not to read this, but I welcome comments from anyone who has the patience to work through them to give me additional guidance. Anne

Pittsfield Buff is a beautiful color! I am becoming enamoured with the lighter colors these days. I always went dark - mostly cause my DH saw things that way. I am finally stepping up and expressing myself a bit, however, and he will be fine with it. At this point, as he sees all these pale color choices, he says things like 'they are all so bland' but after the art is up, lighting finished, furnishings are in, etc I am sure he will like it. Annie - I see a snippit of ceiling in your bathroom. Is it painted a diffent color than the walls? Looks almost red in the pic. Also, I am curious about the shower. You have what looks like wood atop the half wall and where the shower door is attached. Is it a tile that looks like wood? Also, is the shower travertine or a tile that looks like it? Hope you dont mind me being nosey, but bathrooms are on my horizon! I would LOVE to do natural stone in there since I have that all over my front room, but have some concerns about cleaning in the actual shower area. Last night I had all my paint boards up - Wheeling Neutral, Decatur Buff, SW Camelback, and Shelburn Buff. Wheeling wasnt bad at night but is sort of blah. Decatur was very drab - no 'yeller' tho. Camelback was GREEEEEEN. Shelburn Buff was sort of yeller but not bad. I tried Wilmington Tan again based on my admiration of Annies space, but again, I got that extreme yeller thing going on. Guess I will have to put it aside unless a lighting change helps it. Sad cause during the day it is beautiful. Night, however, is when we spend most of our time here so whatever I choose has to do well in night lighting. So here is the plan based on the input you two have given me. While I cannot get pendants and the chandelier up yet due to other factors, I can see about changing the bulbs in the kitchen recessed lights. That is what seems to be doing the 'yeller' thing, so if I can get a different type bulb I may see some of these colors differently, as bronwynsmom is saying. Then I will probably start with Powell Buff since I have a large amount of paint left over from the ceiling project. Altho it is pale, I think that if it works it will give me that lovely, monochromatic, creamy look that is so nice as a backdrop to furnishings and art. I will do it on the one wall that is where everything in the room meets. If it doesnt work I will take another look at the other colors - Wilmington, Decatur, and Shelburn. They all have yellow toned undertones so are likely the ones that are probably the best choices with the Powell Buff ceiling. Altho I like Camelback a lot (except in the present lighting at night) the green undertone might conflict with the yellow undertone of the PB ceiling. From what I read online, keeping the undertones consistent in pale neutrals is what helps the space look cohesive. If I had to do it over again, I might not choose the Powell Buff for the ceiling. Might have dont Pittsfield instead - or another with a soft green undertone. My granite is full of greens, so it pulls on me when I am trying to choose a paint color. Even the scabos travertine has a lot of green, as does the slate floor. But there is a lot of gold in all those elements too, so yellow undertones will probably work well, also. I think that is why I have had such a time with this choice - there are so many colors in the natural stones I chose. Love them tho! I will try to get to the store today and check out the lightbulbs.
