I would go with the fabric that is the right color, as that sounds like a big issue for you. And I won't suggest other fabric sites, but I do wonder why not go with some kind of print or pattern that contains the green, but other colors as well, for more interest? Then the matching isn't as much of an issue, either.

I did look at prints, too. Everything that was the right color was either too big or too small, too heavy, too sheer, too casual, or otherwise just didn't feel right.

The color in question is a pale aqua, sort of a light robin egg blue/very pale Tiffany blue. So, the blue fabrics are really too blue, and the greens are too green. And although the seaglass/aqua colors are supposed to be hot right now, I sure haven't found what I'm looking for.

Maybe I'm just too picky?

Oh, dear, have I been in your shoes exactly. Here is what I did in a house about fifteen years ago and I am getting ready to do something really similar now because I am wearing the same shoes again, so to speak!

You may not like it. It absolutely looked fantastic. It's nothing earth shatteringly "new", but you could adapt it to work for you. And my project looked professional and great. Everyone wanted to know who made my toppers, too.

I used a jeweled tone Windex blue silk solid and cotton sateen print to make boxed pleat window toppers with wooden rings that I hand sewed on. I used the silk for about a 3"~4" band at the top and inside the box pleats for a tease of color, as well as, made a small band of the blue silk piping all along the edges instead of using the typical, expected fringes. I wanted my chandelier to be the focus and the print. It turned out great.

Make sure your piping is not too thick or thin. Just enough color to make it look custom. I then painted a
1 1/4" wooden pole to match my wall color, burnished it with some 'brass' rub or antique gold spray. Did the same for the rings. I hollowed out enough of a Styrofoam ball the size of a baseball or so to fit on each end of the wooden pole and covered it with the silk using a little Tacky Glue and straight pins to hold it together. One end is permanently glued on, the other is fed on... Then put the topper up with 4"~5" 'L' brackets (depending on what size balls you buy; you can buy brackets at HD or Lo's.

It's a neat, creative, custom look. I would go with the exact color match. It will look like you know what in the heck you're doing. Especially if you make your project a little more complicated. Simple is just that... comes across as too simple sometimes. My suggestion is also simple, but really looks dynamic. You do not have to use wooden poles or Styrofoam balls, but the wooden rings look great. Even repainting a metal pole... is amazing. Spray paint is really something. Get the double coating stuff, then use a rub in different toppings. Pearle-scents, brasses, antiques, silvers, etc. Amazing what can happen when you paint something white and you add brass rub to it, or grey-green/olive and you add brass. AMAZING results, every time.

Be aware that silk does not stand up well to sun. I'm not sure when you say that your are going to line with dupioni if you mean it will be facing the glass.

I always line my drapes and toppers. It gives them body and substance.

clt, the lining is a silk/poly blend, and it will be facing the window, but we also have blinds, and the window only gets morning sun, so I hope it'll be ok.

sherilynn, I was planning to line the whole thing, just so it hangs better. Wow! That sounds quite a project you did.

I've decided to go with the sateen in the color that speaks to me. I'll post pics if it all turns out like I hope.
