Intricate laser-cut works add dimension and surprise to interior designs

A technique once used for industrial manufacturing is now helping designers conceptualize everything from chairs to curtains. Laser cutting results in clean, modern lines and delicate forms that make a lasting impression and a graphic statement. With lace-inspired patterns made out of fabric, acrylic, metal and wood, these cutouts are definitely not your grandmother's doilies.
Inspired by patterns found on Scandinavian tiles, the designers of this home laser cut this wood panel for a show-stopping piece.
A different view of the panel shows its size and influence in separating different areas of the house.
For a custom-made art installation, pick a pattern you like and work with your architect or designer to have it professionally laser cut. Iron (shown here) is a great material to cut for a strong statement.
