Final countertop question!!!

Okay, it is April Fool's Day...but I really will try to make this the VERY last countertop question!

Here's my inspiration picture for the layout (with stove and sink switched) but I'm not loving the countertop...the stainless steel appliances, or the style for that matter (but I do like the stools).

Anyway, would it look better with the peninsula all one height? I really want a country something kitchen...not sure if it's vintage country, french country or victorian country at this point (maybe eclectic country?) but I want it to look old and inviting, easy to work in, but still a little frou frou :)

So, what do you think about the peninsula and what about the countertops. I like butcher block and marble, but I also like formica...something durable, so different materials are fine, if they make some kind of sense, overall. There's also a counter next to the wall oven, but I'm still debating the bar sink. Thanks in advance :)
