If I had enough room, that is exactly what I would have done. I end up using my top drawer twice as much as the bottom drawer.

I like the idea of two singles but I think I am going to stack them. I have the same dilemma as you with the garbage pullout and I really want one. Also, I was thinking if you every have to replace your dish drawers and for some reason they don't make them anymore or change the size of them, then you could always replace them with a regular dishwasher, if you wanted to.

I have two singles and LOVE it. No more bending WAY over to find the dishes shoved way at the back and bottom. My trash is under the sink. I alternate the drawer usage so one doesn't get used more than the other. If you can pull it off I say DO IT!

Same boat. But I would not (and did not) give up a good trash container for my DW arrangement. So I have my DD stacked. I have lived for several years now with a pitifully small trash under the sink because that is all the fit. It *sucks*.

Anyway, it will do you good to bend over to use the bottom DD. :-) (At least it will do me good.)

Yes, it would be more convenient to have 2 single dd just under the counter. But, really, the drawer concept is so much more convenient than the regular dw configuration, that I'm thankful every time I load/unload...even the bottom drawer. The extra work involved with the lower drawer is really minimal and might help keep your back a little more limber.

From a design concept, I could see how the single dd's would work well in your layout. But as far a convenience goes, I would think having the trash under the sink would add much more incovenience than a lower dd. You'd have to move away from the sink anytime anyone wanted to throw something away. Also, I think threebees has a very good point...stacked dd's give you more options down the road. I know I felt better about purchasing them knowing that it wasn't a lifetime commitment. We've had ours for almost 3 years and I love them.

I think garbage is a great thing to put under the sink. It can be a pullout. Mine isn't horrendously dinky, even though I only have a 27" cabinet. (true, it has to be taken out every day, but then it doesn't stink!)

The sink cabinet is hard to use well otherwise. I would never, not even in a big kitchen, give up actual storage space in order to devote a base cabinet to the trash. (well, OK, maybe in a HUGE kitchen, but not in one that I've ever personally seen)

HOWEVER; consider whether the hook-ups from the dish drawers will restrict the size of garbage can you can have there.

I found that by putting ALL the plumbing (cut-off valves, etc.) on the same side as my dishwasher left the OTHER side way open, and so I could have a tall garbage can there.

In your case, you'll have dishdrawer drain hoses coming from both sides of the sink, and you may not be able to have one side completely clear for the garbage.

I too am planning the double dish drawers in our new remodel; however, b/c of space mine are going to have to be stacked. The dealer where I am buying mine from though have theirs on either side of the sink. I think there are +'s and -'s to each way. The determining factor should be what is best for you. Our garbage pull out is going to be in the island directly behind the sink. First is b/c we make so much garbage (I tell my husband we are the trashiest people around!!) it wouldn't do for us to have it under the sink and second one of my prep areas is in the island so the trash is centrally located. If you have an island in your plan, maybe this would work for you as well.

Having the stacked version of dd, I'd vote for the way you have it drawn.

It will be much easier to use and quieter. The bottom drawer is noiser than the top drawer or single drawer units.

If you have the space, do two singles. We did and have loved it.

And, we'd do it again.

We have dishdrawers on either side of the sink, and our pullout trash is in the island right across from the main sink. We really like this setup.

Turns out that the custom cabinet drawers that were needed to go under the single dish drawers were really pricey from our cabinet company. So pricey that is was the same price to do two double DD, so that's what we did. The top drawers are used most frequently and are quieter than the bottom drawers. We keep the bottom drawers configured for larg items like pots and bowls and use the top ones for dishes, glasses etc, because it's so much nicer to load and unload the top drawers. If you can make it work with single drawers, I really recommend it.

We have singles on each side of the sink and LOVE it. However, I have a stainless trash can at the end of the island and behind a support column where it fits perfectly. In my case, I like using a foot pedal on the trash can as opposed to pulling out trash in a cabinet.

I have a single drawer on either side of the sink. I love this set -up. I don't think I would sacrifice a pullout trash for it though. I have a pullout in a prep area and someone is always standing there when I want to use it. I would like to have a 2nd trash pullout!
