should I add more bleach to get rid of green?

My 32K gallon inground saltwater pool had some leaks and was losing water fast, so I had to take the cover off to have the leak detection co. come out. They came out and repaired one hole in the liner, but said I had to get the silt off the bottom of the pool before they could come back to find any other leaks.

So I had to raise the water level and totally reopen the pool, and now it has rained and is green.

Since it is cold out, the swg of course does not function. Even if it did, there is not enough salt in the pool for it to work. Because of the leaks, I had to keep adding water under the cover to keep the vinyl liner from coming out.

I have added 16 gallons of chlorine bleach in the past day. It's now been 5 hours since I added the last 10 gallons (16 gallons total added).

Should I go buy more and add it or wait til tomorrow and see if it turns blue? It is still as green as ever. I wanted to get it blue asap because I need that leak company to come back out before it rains again. That way I can put the cover back on again.

Is 16 gallons enough? It seems like it should be turning blue by now. Also I added some stabilizer, not a lot, but what I had left from last year.

I just tested with a test strip and it says fc is high, over 10 which is no surprise. Also ph and ta are both on the low side but since I am not swimming in it now does that really matter? If I just keep the FC up will that kill the algae and turn the pool blue in a few days?

The amount of bleach to kill algae will depend on your CYA level. You need a good set of test numbers to post to get the best advice. Keep in mind your CYA will be increasing over the next several days because of what you just added.

And the higher the CYA, the higher your FC level needs to be to effectively kill algae. Your reading of 10 is only a shock level if you had a CYA level of 20 or less, according to the linked chart (because you're effectively a non-SWG pool in the winter).

Okay...I think I've gotten rid of them again...BUT.... I wish they would leave the link on top so I wouldn't have to do it everytime I clean out history and cookies. That's what I had done last night that must have caused them to come back. Connie did you have that link saved somewhere? patti

I love your room! I wouldn't hang art that high ^^. I like the asymmetrical placement, but think if you center it over the chair, it will actually be asymmetrical on the wall, but balance with the chair and lamp. Or maybe first try scootching the chair and table a little closer to the couch so the right corner of the chair lines up with the right side of the art. Or if you like the chair exactly where it is, maybe instead of centering the art over the chair, line it up by moving the painting slightly to the right so the chair and right edge of the painting line up, like I suggested above.

If you absolutely cannot stand the texture, sure go ahead and skim it smooth but I'm going to guess you'd be willing to live with it since you said smooth walls would be your preference. You do not need to skim the entire wall (and actually you'd have to do the entire room) for this one little rectangle. Even if you can't achieve a 100% perfect texture match, you will never notice it with this small of a repair as long as it's a close match. Just fill the void with drywall mud so it's smooth with the wall and feather it out onto the wall. After it's dry you can check it with a level or straight board to make sure it's level. Lightly sand if you need to, get some spray texture that matches what you have, spray it on and knock it down with a drywall knife. I would normally not recommend spray texture but this is a small area and the knock-down part of it is easier to match than if you weren't knocking it down. I wish my drywall repairs were this small! I've had to repair areas 10x this size and the drywall paper was torn to boot! I've never had a problem matching the texture and I'm a walking, breathing perfectionist. You can do it! It's very unlikely you'll even be able to find someone willing to do this small of a repair. Ps, be sure to remove the plastic screw anchors.

I wouldn't add more pictures, but I think something taller needs to go in the left corner. Either switch the 2 floor plants on either side of the wall table, or put the snake plant on the taller stand. I would leave only the animal grouping on the wall table, and remove the tall item and the small plant. Put the small plant beside the hoya. If your nook sculpture fits on the one of the stands, it might be interesting to put it to the left of the painting. That looks like the darkest corner of your room anyway so a sculpture instead of a plant makes sense there. Then fill the nook with all your smaller plants as a grouping. You could the tallest ones on small white boxes to give height to the arrangement, and so they don't shade each other. They would like the light there too. I like your plants.

You need to vac to waste to get the silt and dead algae out.
If the water is below 60 degrees, no more algae will form. You shouldn't need more bleach.

I like to use sodium bromide in conjunction with bleach and a 12-14 hour filtration cycle to go from green to clean.
Put in the appropriate amount per 10k gallons plus 2 gallons of bleach per 10k gallons. Let it run through the cycle and sit idle for the next 10-12 hours. If it didn't clear up in the 1st 24hrs brush aggressively and repeat the process again. This is a must because the ingredient is activated by chlorine.
On the next morning, after sitting idle, vacuum to waste.
Then add bleach daily until you can hold a residual reading. This process blows away bleach only for clearing up a nasty pool.
