What weed is this? and how do I get rid of it.
Comments (4)Yep. Whether Poa Annua or another bluegrass that is typical this time of year. It is having a banner year due to the longer winter and cool spring. It likes cool and damp and if it is the Poa Annua then heat kills it off. Don't water until you must and wait for the heat. A pre-emergent for crabgrass control in fall and early spring next season will knock it way back but those seeeds last years and nothing kills it that doesn't kill your turf as well. Also, next year if it starts popping up weeks before your lawn turn you can add vinegar to a pump sprayer and spray it and every 'early' weed before your grass greens up early in the day then the sun/acid will burn it right up before it spreads and goes to seed. What kind of (intentional) lawn do you have? Once the soil warms to around 70, especially if fairly dry and not shaded, this stuff dies out....See MoreWhat is this grass and how can I get rid of it?
Comments (5)That is bermudagrass and the only way to reduce its growth and development in your St. Augustine is by promoting an environment that is more beneficial for St. Augustine and less beneficial for bermudagrass. In addition, the use of Atrazine herbicide at specific times of the year can help reduce your bermuda encroachment. I'm not nearly as experienced with St. Augustine as are some others on this forum, so I'll step aside and let them guide you to St. Augustine success....See MoreWhat is this, and how do I get rid of it?
Comments (9)I had some of the solid green appear on me - probably from seed, I'm thinking. It was quite amazing. I thought I'd plant both kinds in a little space between a retaining wall and gravel. The solid green grew twice as fast, with leaves twice as big - it was almost scary. By the way, charbucks, I have fairly light soil and I've found the easiest way to dig up the roots is with a garden fork - I can rip up roots and rhizomes and leave most of the soil behind. I did this in a fairly large section of a flower bed two years ago, and had just a bit grow back on me, mostly tight in around other plants where I couldn't really get everything out. Comments (6)Looks like Blue Dawn Flower to me. It's commonly sold in California and is not particularly "invasive" here. It does spread by runner and rhizome, but because of our climate it can't easily survive the summer dry period without supplimental watering. Yes, in yards it can get a bit overwhelming, but I wouldn't worry too much about the fence; if you to cut the vines at the ground and tried to pick up the resulting tangle it would be quite light. It also climbs by twining and should not deteriorate the wood of the fence. As far as I'm aware there would be no way to keep the plant on the neighbor's side of the fence only; any cutting or poisoning that you were to do to your side would invariably affect the neighbor's side...
