Yes, you have a problem. Keep in touch with Animal Control to let them know the problem continues. The more calls, the more attention you will get. Ask for extra patrols. Other neighbors should call also.

Izzi is a small dog? I would not let him out alone or even walk him until the problem is settled.

Is your yard fenced? Maybe you could lure them in with treats and shut the gate.

Anyone have a gun? Talk to your neighbours - maybe if everyone agreed and just kept quiet about it - someone could just kill those dogs before they hurt someone. They are a menace and threat. If you are in the country - just shoot the darn animals. They are NOT domestic by any means.

Let me get this right...you called animal control and they came out, couldn't catch the dogs and just left? Did not come back and catch the dogs??? Did not leave baited traps?

First, I'd call the police and let them take care of the dogs. Then I'd call Animal Control and give them a piece of my mind.

Yes, Izzi is little, she weighs 11 pounds. No I don't let her out now. We do not have a fence. So far 3 different ones have called animal control. I haven't seen them since this morning, but that is not to say they won't be back since they have come and gone for 3 days now. As far as patroling, I don't think they do that, since there is just one fellow that handles that and I am sure the county is pretty big for one person to patrol. They probably just wait for a complaint to come in.

I am sorry your animal control is not as vigilant as ours is. Yours should have set a baited humane trap.

I don't have a gun myself, but I might invest in some mace to protect my family if I had this issue. Does mace or pepper spray work on dogs? I would think so.

We had a dog loose in our neighborhood for a long time, several months. He was friendly, at least, but he was quite the escape artist, untrusting and smart as anything. He escaped from my fence once after weeks of trying to get his trust, then he would not come back. It took months to get him caught. Animal control was of very little help as they couldn't/ wouldn't do anything unless the dog was contained. However, at some point someone hired a trapper to humanely trap the dog. It was a nice dog and ready to be a good pet, but it was a big yellow lab and way too thin, everyone was worried for its health. It was sad, it would act so interested in being around people, then so scared to get too close. Funny, too, b/c the whole neighborhood was rallied around this dog. ;o) It was expensive to get a trapper, but we took up a collection to cover it for the sake of the dog as well as kids and other pets.

We had a happy ending. Once the dog was finally caught and "vetted" LOL a local family did adopt it and now "Duke" is a legend. ;o)

Anyway. My point was if AC is not much help and you are concerned for safety, look into a humane trapper to help and take up a collection to pay for it (or if you have a HOA ask them to cover it).

I would call the police if the animal control won't do anything. It comes down to people's safety and the dogs need to be taken care of. At this point, I wouldn't care if they were both shot. Being threatened like that is awful...someone is going to be killed by those dogs. I didn't think dogs normally acted that aggressive when not in their own territory. Running loose and being so agressive sounds extremely scarey to me!

Yes, call the sheriffs dept, or local police. Because of the elderly and children --and others involved, tell them to please investigate--or get someone with a gun and good eyesite. Sometimes animal control is so busy and spread out they just cannot cover the area. Where we used to live in CA people would just dump their dogs and they did not last very long. Here the stray dogs don't last either. Too many farmers with self protection.

If where you live is like where i live,don't bother to call the police.They will just tell you to call AC.We had a neighbors pitbull loose in our neighborhood last year.He had jumped the fence.I called AC about 9 am the first time,and i and other neighbors called AC and the police several times that day and no one ever showed up.
About 2:30 i called again and told them how many times we had called that day with no response,and that the dog was still running loose.I also told them school would be out in 1/2 an hour and i didn't think they'd want a maimed,or killed child reported in the paper because they didn't do their job.Of course their response was that they were short handed,that's always their excuse.They finally showed up,and within minutes the owners also came home from work.AC got the dog,but gave him back to the owners with a ticket.Then the AC guy came across the street and told me he gave them a ticket and 10 days to take care of it.He also told me the dog hadn't had any of it's shots,nor is it licensed,but they had to get it all done within the next 10 days.

AC told me if i saw it out again to use my digital camera ,if i had one,make sure the date on it was correct and take pictures.Then i could come down and make a report and they would have to appear in court.
So far no more problems from them.

It won't do any good to call the police, one of the neighbors already tried that. Well, my husband came home with one of his guns. I don't know what it is possibly a rifle, but then again it could be a shot gun. I don't know my guns. I told him how is he going to shoot the thing as he has no use of his left hand! He probably will put the windows out of his car or the neighbor's house! Haven't seen the dogs again since this morning. I am hoping they have been caught or moved on.
