Blood clots

I recently was hospitalized with blood clots in my lungs-they could not find a source. Have any of you experienced anything like this? What are the restrictions-remedy-whatever Would sure appreciate any knowledge or experience with this.thanks

What does your medical staff recommend? Specialist? Before you accept outside ideas, please clear them with your Dr.

Yes, thanks too. I picked up my Health magazine and they had an article about this in it that I read last night. It still says it's difficult for a woman to understand that they're having a heart attack, that they pass it off as something else. It also mentions jaw pain. I'm glad your friend is doing well, Westelle, that was nice of her to share this. I agree Pat, if your dr is ignoring you, maybe you should ignore him and find someone who will listen to you. Your age is NOT an excuse when women are living into their 90's and older. You have an excellent quality of life and you want to keep that. You need a dr willing to give you the quality care to keep that.

Hi Bonnie, Went out to get my vigna to take an updated picture, but the batteries on my camera are low, rats! Here's a picture from before so hopefully you will be able to see that the leaves look different than your two plants. The leaves on the vigna are sort of thin, not thick, and the stems are smooth, green and very flexible. Also, noted the each 'branch' has a grouping of three leaves. Hard to explain and when my batteries are charged, I can sent you a picture if you like.

Did you have a hospital stay and were you on intravenous blood thinner (heparin) there? Did your doc have you fitted for a circulation sock for the leg? How often are you seeing your doc now? Have you had ultrasound on the leg? A venograph? How much has the clot shrunk? Has an underlying cause been diagnosed? Seen a hematologist and been tested for underlying hereditary or secondary problems in your ability to form blood clots normally? Deep Vein Thrombosis is serious. And there are long-term effects. I've had 2 in the past 25 years and am now on lifelong coumadin therapy. Just having a DVT can cause you to be susceptible for more DVTs in the future. Doctors are NOT knowledgeable about this. There is a good Yahoo group for DVT sufferers. I forget the exact name of the group - but you need to be discussing this with fellow sufferers. If you had a large clot and you have been released from the hospital, then most likely you are out of immediate danger. The remains of the clot should by now be adhered to your vein walls and will not break off easily. You may have vein damage due to the large clot. Ask to be referred to a hematologist as well as a vascular specialist. As for the blood thinners - ask to be referred to an "anticoagulation clinic" to oversee your coumadin regimen. Doctor's offices are NOT equipped to oversee this effectively. If you are out of danger of embolism, then start getting exercise as soon as you are able, to help strengthen your veins and get your circulation back to normal. My freinds husband died from that when he was 50+. It moved from his lung to his heart I think. She is a nurse and blamed herself for not realizing it for a long time afterward.

I awoke with some in my lungs over a couple of years and over a half ago: the pain woke me.

I'd had an MRI? guided shot to shrink varicose veins just over a couple of weeks earlier, with about three more scheduled for later.

They weren't sure that was the cause, but when the vein clinic heard of it, they cancelled the other treatment schedule in a hurry.

They did X-rays and MRI, I think, at emerge, with CATscan the next day, but gave me a shot of blood thinner at emerge, with needles to give myself for about 6 days, while starting taking Warfarin pills, which I'm still doing.

Keep hounding your doc(s) and the hospital.

This ain't nuthin' to fool around with.

No one here is qualified to give you medical advice!

Anecdotes from other people have nothing to do with your personal condition.

Quiz your doctor vigorously about what he's prescribed. Listen to the pharmacist who tries to explain the drug - including what foods (if any) to avoid. Make sure the doctor and the pharmacist both know what other medications and supplements you are taking.

Make daily notes of your condition while you take any new medication. If you note anything unusual, go see your doctor with your notebook.
