I'm currently reading "Cross Fire" by James Patterson. I love his Alex Cross novels...actually, I love all of Patterson's books.

I just got a book from the library about the Black Dahalia murder.

I'm reading Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Galbadon. It's the 2nd book in the series. The first book was Outlander. I understand there are currently 7 books in the series. I love it. Very well written.

I'm still reading Heaven is for Real, it seems that I don't have time to read right now. But the book is really quite good.

I'm reading Now & Then, one of Robert B. Parker's Spenser novels, written in 2007. I hate the thought of finishing all of his books. I guess I'll have to start reading them again. :-)

I'm almost finished with Bad Church, Good Church, written by a friend of mine who was a Catholic priest for 10 years before leaving the church.

I just read "Wishin' & Hopin'" by Wally Lamb, a quick read and funny, not like his previous novels at all (but I liked all of those as well).

Also read "Slow Waltz at Cedar Bend" by Robert James Waller, the author of "The Bridges of Madison County". Another quick read and nice.

And "Her Fearful Symmetry" by Audrey Niffenegger", author of "The Time Traveler's Wife". It was different but good.

Nothing. My local public library closed over the weekend for construction. Wah! I miss it already! I loved to walk there and read newspapers and magazines, maybe check out a gardening book for inspiration.

I started The Nanny Diaries, but don't think I'll put any more time into it. I always have two or three books going at once, and now reading Anne Tyler's "Patchwork World" and "The Great Man" by Kate Christensen, and enjoying both.

I started The Janus Stone by Elly Griffiths this morning after reading the first book in the series, The Crossing Places. I just finished Spider Web by Earlene Fowler.

Last week, I read Sixkill, the last book by Robert B. Parker. Like Alisande, I know I will miss one of my favorite authors. I've started downloading his early novels in e-book format so that I don't lose them as my paper copies disintegrate. Don't forget that there's a new Jesse Stone television movie on Sunday, May 22.

Last weekend I finished reading "Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption", by Laura Hillenbrand. It's not a book I would normally read, but on the advice of a co-worker I decided to read it. It held me riveted. It was heartbreaking and inspiring. I learned a few things about our own government that surprised me and disappointed me.

I have just begun "Savages", by Shirley Conran.

Robert B. Parker News: Ace Atkins will continue Spenser series
Deadline reports: Spenser and Jesse Stone are on the job once more. Robert B. Parker's estate announced that Michael Brandman will write the first Stone novel under the title Robert B. Parker's Killing the Blues. The novel will be published September 13. Brandman was co-writer and producer of CBS's Stone movies featuring Tom Selleck, as well as producer of three Spenser novel adaptations for A&E.

Ace Atkins, whose novels include White Shadow, Infamous and Wicked City, will write the first new Spenser novel, to be released in the spring of 2012. Sixkill, Parker's final Spenser novel, will be released by Putnam in May.

I read all the "Outlander" series -- sometimes you can stretch a good thing too far! lol

Just finished geting a Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne fix. Read Julia Spencer-Fleming's "One Was a Soldier". While I don't think this author has stretched her characters too far, *something* happened that took the edge off this good plot and its' message. Maybe losing her old editor hurt it? I know publication had been delayed. I always think that means a publisher wants the book 'goosed up'. (Maybe I've been watching too many episodes of "Mad Men".)

Recently read the latest 'Maisie Dobbs'. She has started to feel overwhelmingly cloying, getting in the way of a good mystery.

I hope the new authors can nail the characters--and the wonderful dialogue (especially Spenser's/Hawk's). What a challenge for the writers!

I'm still reading Crunch Time. I haven't picked it up in over a week. Maybe I'll get back to reading it today. I have so many books that I want to read.

I will be surprised if anyone can take Robert B. Parker's place. I loved all his books and I guess if you wait a couple of years, at my age, I will forget them and get to start all over.

Just finished "Mildred Pierce" by James M. Cain for book club. I really liked it, although the way he writes is a little dry. I would recommend it.

Next read for book club is "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole. I've read it and it's one of my favorite books of all time. It's a book people either LOVE or HATE, depending on how you feel about the main character. I'm excited to read it again.

I just finished The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris. A strange but interesting story about a lawyer who couldn't quit walking. I mean really.

Finished Outlander not too long ago. Will have to track down the next book in that series. I am reading the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy Catching Fire. I have the next GRR Martin book on order. Song of Fire and Ice is supposed to be out in July. I don't usually do that, but I am hooked. My son suggested him to me, and I am looking forward to the next book.

I just finished reading "Honeymoon For one" by Beth Orsoff.
Its sort of a "chick flick" type of book, and a mystery too. I found it pretty interesting and didn't want to put my Kindle down until I finished it.

I'm still reading the Lindsey Davis', Marcus Didius Falco detective series, set in ancient Rome. I'm on book number 16, with four more to go. It's been fun, she's a great writer of historical fiction with plenty of humor. I'll be sorry when I'm finished with the series.

I loved the Outlander series as well, but I think a missed one or two near the end. I suspected Gabaldon would be running out of gas by then and didn't want to spoil things by reading long books that I didn't enjoy as much.

I'm reading "Ahab's Wife, or The Star-Gazer." Good but longish.

Picked up from the library today "Bossypants" by Tina Fey. I usually don't read celebrity books, but this one sounds pretty funny. I saw TF interviewed on Ellen about the book, and one part she mentioned was funny.

Socks, I've heard great things about the Tina Fey book. I am going to have to pick it up also. I heard it's hilarious, which doesn't surprise me. I love Tina Fey.

Minnie, That's good news about the continuation of Parker's series.

Chisue, I read the Claire/Russ book last week. I think now that they can be together, some of the tension is missing. I still like reading about them, though. As for period mysteries, I've always enjoyed Robin Paige's series although the authors aren't writing any new ones, and Carola Dunn's Daisy Dalrymple series.

I read three this past week: Queen of the Night by J.A.Jance,
Imperfect Birds by Anne Lamott and Extraordinary, Ordinary People by Condoleezza Rice. I especially enjoyed Queen of the Night since the setting is Tucson.

Am just finishing Caesar, by Colleen McCullough, the fifth in her seven volume Masters of Rome series. Two more to go. This huge saga has completely taken over my head. Waiting for a break from Rome are a Kate Shugak mystery (Dana Stabenow) and a J.P. Beaumont mystery (J.A. Jance). Feel bad about finishing Jance's Beaumont and Brady series; I love those books. Also have a biography of Beatrix Potter on the TBR shelf.

Mariynne Robinson's Gilead for my book club. Next month is Patricia Hampl's Virgin Time: In Search of the Contemplative Life. I've read both before and love them. If you like memoir, epecially bordering on the spiritual, you'd like Hampl's work.

Just finished Tick Tock, by James Patterson. I like his books because, they are so well written and I really like the short chapters. It seems like as I get older, my attention span is lacking. Here, in our small tri-town area when we put our name in at the library for a new book, it comes to the top of the list fairly fast. My daughter lives in a Minneapolis suburb of many people. She put her name in for the book The Help. At first, her name was number 1734, that was a couple years ago. When i asked, she said her name was slowly climbing up the list. So I ordered the book from Amazon, for her birthday. She and her daughter read it then donated it to the library. We both have done that when we get books as gifts.

I'm reading "Freedom" by Jonathan Franzen. Not sure if I can recommend it yet because the writing style is very unusual.
